Associate Teacher - ECEAP - 3.5 hours/day - 4 days per week
School Year Only (no conference days - unless member of bargaining unit before 10/8/2009.)
Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this position is to assist with the delivery of instructional services for eligible students. Responsibilities vary with the individual assignment. Typically will work under the direction of a certificated staff member(s) to provide instruction of students, supervise students and assist in adherence to the discipline plan, prepare materials, assist with testing and record keeping, supervise within the building and outdoors. Assist with care and personal hygiene needs of the students.

  • Maintain inventory and upkeep of classroom supplies and materials
  • Provide a safe, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environment
  • Apply health standards and care for the children and classroom
  • Establish a learning environment to build and enhance each child's self-esteem and positive self-concept
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the developmental level and learning style of each child
  • Implement positive guidance practices that teach and meet the individual temperaments of each child
  • Make appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Organize and facilitate age appropriate classroom routines
  • Assists in planning and implementing curriculum that encourages the advancement of children's physical, intellectual, and social-emotional competence.
  • Maintain open, friendly and cooperative verbal and written communication with each child's family
  • Work with ECEAP Lead Teacher and FSC to plan and implement parent center meetings
  • Guide and sustain positive interactions between children and adults
  • Maintain an atmosphere that encourages open communication with children and adults
  • Provide opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire and provide use verbal and non-verbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings
  • Submit attendance records and required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Participate in required training and share information with other staff as requested
  • Prepare and provide timely and accurate written reports, memoranda, and other statistical or narrative information as required or requested
  • Support Student Services Director/ECEAP Coordinator/team members as needed and/or requested

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
  • Employment in the same position in the same agency before July 1, 1999 OR

The equivalent of 12 quarter credits in early childhood education. OR
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Counsel for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.
If the best candidate for the position is not fully qualified, Deer Park must ensure the newly hired staff person is on a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to fully meet the qualifications of their role within five years from the date of Contractors must monitor progress on all PDPs and ensure staff make yearly progress to meet the required qualifications.
AND
Completion of at least 2 years of study totalling 72 quarter hours at an institution of learning; OR
Obtained an associates (or higher) degree; OR
Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal para educator competency test. (PRAXIS)
PREFERRED
  • Successful experience working with special needs students preferred
  • Strong background with linking families to community agencies and resources
  • Ability to cooperatively work and plan together in a collaborative setting
  • Previous experience with ECEAP students and performance standards

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Small group instructional experience desired
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in working with small children.
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively with all staff, students and as a team member, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner
  • Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to FERPA requirements
  • Must secure food handlers permit/first aid card/right response training before starting

Salary Range: $16.43 - $20.85 depending on experience.
Contract Year, 8:15AM - 11:45AM - 3.5hours per day - Monday - Thursday
