PRE-K TEACHER ASSISTANT
Job Description
General Statement of Job:
To perform a variety of tasks in order to support the efforts of the Lead Teacher, to meet the needs of all students, and to ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students.
Reports to Principal, Preschool Coordinator and/or Lead Teacher.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of students, develop self-esteem of students, and encourage students to become increasingly independent
  • Monitor children's behaviors and deescalate inappropriate behaviors using redirection and other developmentally-appropriate techniques; employs strategies to protect students from injury
  • Assist and supplement planned activities; supervise activity centers; provide individual assistance with independent projects
  • Maintain a safe indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in maintaining a clean, orderly classroom
  • Maintain staff/child ratio and visual supervision of children at all times
  • Assist children with personal and self-help needs when necessary
  • Promote proper handwashing techniques; clean and sanitize classroom equipment and materials Distribute morning and mid-day meals, prepare afternoon snack
  • Accompany students to and from the bus: guide students to and from classrooms Comply at all times with applicable NC Child Care Regulations, NC Sanitation Guidelines, NC Fire and Building Codes, and Lenoir County Public Schools Standards
  • Report all complaints of child abuse, neglect, or improper care to supervisor
  • Maintain positive communication with co-workers to create a professional atmosphere
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth
  • Carry out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed

Additional Job Functions or Assigned Tasks:
  • Participate in staff development workshops . Perform other related work as required

Minimum Training and Experience:
  • High school diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework required
  • Associates in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in a recognized early childhood environment or licensed child care facility preferred
  • CPR/1st Aid Certification Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to perform Essential Job Functions:
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move approximately 40lbs.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, and kneeling are required. Requires the ability to move quickly in a fast paced environment.

Job Description
General Responsibilities: Assist the school nurse in the implementation of an individual schools' health services program.
Essential Functions
  • Follow the school nurse's instructions and procedures to assist in the daily operation of the

assigned school
  • Keep the school nurse informed as to the urgency of student needs
  • Personal care functions including: Bathing; Skin Care; Toileting; Grooming; Oral Hygiene;

Assist with dressing and undressing
  • Help with feeding of students (feeding tubes)
  • Take student's temperature when appropriate
  • Measuring and recording intake and output; Weigh students using upright, chair or bed scale
  • Assists in turning and positioning of students
  • Proper transfer techniques
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment
  • Transports students, supplies and equipment as needed
  • Simple non-sterile dressings
  • Help with screening programs
  • Administer care to students as directed; contact parents as appropriate
  • Share information or locate students as requested by the school nurse
  • Assist the school nurse with the maintenance of records and daily reports
  • Provide minor care and first aid as authorized by the school nurse
  • Complete work in the time specified
  • Assist with medications only when directed by the school nurse
  • Assist with medically-involved or medically-fragile students
  • Participates in IEP meetings with other team members
  • Maintains confidentiality in relation to all students, staff and documentation
  • Appearance is professional and complies with school dress code
  • Perform related work as required

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abllities Needed- Knowledge of universal procedures for communicable diseases and blood borne-pathogens; ability to maintain confidential files and information and compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents and associates.
Requirements-
  • High school graduate/GED
  • Must have minimum 2-year Associate's degree, plus CNA I or II license

Physical Requirements Significant standing, some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lb
