The Plant Manager has a key leadership role in production by directing and coordinating the activities of the production departments, including but not limited to: Stock Room, Shipping/Receiving, Wire Harness, Battery, EHS, and Planning. Ensuring that business runs smooth for the entire facility. This role is for someone with a proven track record in managing multiple departments, ensuring on-time delivery of promised product.

Day to Day

  • Reviews production orders, reports or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports; resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to ensure minimum cost and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with said standards.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to the Human Resource Manager.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.

Supervisory

  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in Wire, Battery, and other departments as needed.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.
  • Directly supervises non-supervisory employees in the Planning and EHS departments.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

Additional

  • Assist with interviewing and hiring.
  • Training employees or see that they get the proper training.
  • Ensure that employees are cross trained when applicable.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Writes performance reviews.
  • Rewarding and disciplining employees.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Personal Background

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business or Engineering; or a minimum of 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Managerial experience required.
  • Experience with vehicle battery manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred but not necessary.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Able to respond effectively and fairly to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Job Soft Skills

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Thorough understanding of MRP logic as it relates to manufacturing processes including planning and shop floor operations.
  • Knowledgeable in quality systems and statistical methods.
  • Able to quickly grasp problems and get to the root of and solve operational issues.
  • Able to discern where manufacturing engineering applications can improve operations.
  • Able to get work done through other people by directing and delegating.
  • Able to mediate personnel problems and find resolution to conflicts between people and departments.
  • Knowledgeable in warehouse operations including shipping, receiving, stores, and order picking.
  • Capable of working with engineering to make product improvements and implement processes.
  • Working understanding of ISO 9001:2008 standard.
