The Part Time Shelter Support staff is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for shelter residents. This position assists with in-person response, shelter operations, crisis hotline, and general administration.

Duties and responsibilities
- Answer 24-hour hotline: provide crisis counseling, safety planning, information and referrals, and intakes.
- Assist shelter residents with crisis support/intervention and advocacy.
- Perform facility and operation upkeep tasks ensuring shelter facility is clean and well stocked.
- Provide client transportation.
- Support shelter residents with daily living activities, orienting them to the use of shelter facilities and appliances.
- Assist shelter residents with move-in and exit process, complete intake/exit paperwork, and review shelter policies.
- Document and maintain client records per appropriate standards and regulations.
- Organize indoor and outdoor group activities for shelter residents.
- Pick up and organize donations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Highschool Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of, or ability to complete the California state mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence Assistance training.
- Six months or more customer service experience in an office setting.
- Previous experience working in a shelter environment preferred.
- Experience working with survivors of Gender Based Violence or individuals who have experienced trauma preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain a valid California driver license, current personal auto insurance, and an MVR sufficient to maintain insurability under agency auto liability.
- Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional, and experiential backgrounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to communicate in one of the threshold languages other than English (i.e., Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Tagalog) a plus.
Working conditions
This job requires you to be in the community. Work is often conducted in a shelter environment. Basic safety precautions and the use of protective clothing or gear is required. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Driving is essential to the function of this job. The job requires travel up to 5% of the time. Working with survivors of human trafficking and intimate partner violence may increase exposure to secondary trauma.
