This new position will require a dynamic and flexible educator willing to help in the successful development and implementation of a multi-year dual language program. This full-time teacher will teach two half-day sessions of math, science, social studies and Spanish language arts. The teacher will team with the Spanish-speaking teacher who will teach aligned content in Spanish. This position involves collaborating with a partner teacher, the grade level team and other dual language faculty. Candidates should be prepared to participate in professional development, develop lesson plans for second language learners, utilize dual language pedagogy and accommodate visitors to the classroom.
Qualifications:
- Illinois Teaching License
- ESL and Bilingual approvals
- Fluency and literacy in English and Spanish, native Spanish speaker preferred
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Successful experience in a second grade or other early elementary classroom
- Experience teaching in a Dual Language Immersion Program preferred
Responsibilities:
- Teach elementary content in English
- Have fluency and literacy in both English and Spanish
- Collaborate in the development, articulation, and implementation, of our Dual Language Immersion elementary program
- Understand the core purposes of the Dual Language Program and research behind the program's effectiveness
- Work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially and linguistically diverse.
- Be familiar with or be willing to acquire knowledge of language immersion models and curriculum
- Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction
- Assess student test performance results and develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the class including individualized and small group instruction as necessary in order to adapt the curriculum performance standards to the needs of each pupil
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Evaluate academic and social growth of pupils, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on the individual pupil's progress?
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent
