Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position has two components: drug testing and Clinical Coordinator (Certified Medical Assistant). Time will be split between both aspects of the role depending upon the volume of work.
In their role as Drug Tester, this position is responsible for drug testing students and staff that require testing. This person will be responsible for following University Health Center's drug testing policy and procedures and will report to the Occupational Health lead for this function.
The other aspect of this position is to coordinate the operations of the clinical care team, assist providers with patient and referral follow-up, pre-authorizations, schedule consultations and diagnostic evaluations. This employee reports to the UHC clinic nurse manager and will work closely under the guidance of the UHC nurses to assist patients in all aspects of patient care and follow-up. This position provides excellent customer service, demonstrates attentiveness to patient and visitor needs and inquiries, with a non-judgmental attitude and acute awareness of the comfort, safety, and confidentiality of patients. This is an essential position in times of public health emergencies related to the campus. The position will report to the Clinic Nurse Manager for this function.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
- Five years performing a full range of clerical support services to include one year coordination work and one year in a medical setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the theory, principles, techniques and practices of the specialty are required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of basic medical terminology and related clinical practices and protocols. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and clients. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to use computers and other standard office equipment.
- General knowledge of and ability to comply with confidentiality of records and communications regarding patients/clients.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.

- Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

- Experience working as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory health care facility.
- One (1) year of professional experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working as a Drug Tester in a healthcare facility.
- Fundamental knowledge of equipment used to take vital signs including vision testing.
- Able to perform a range of CMA tasks such as EKG, nebulizer setup, ear lavage, POCTs, vaccine administration, etc.
- Computer skills in common computer applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including skill in oral and written communication.
- Thorough knowledge of basic medical terminology and related clinical practices and protocols.
- Fundamental knowledge of equipment used to take vital signs including vision testing.
- Skilled in operating office and lab equipment.

Certifications:
- Completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants with the credentials of RMA, NCMA, NRCMA, CCMA or CMAA. Incumbents are required to maintain current certification throughout employment.
- Certification as a Certified Professional Collector or ability to gain certification within 3 months after the hire date.
- Certification as a Breath Alcohol Technician or ability to gain certification within 3 months after the hire date.

Physical Demands
Typical physical demands of an office setting, potential exposure to communicable disease by virtue of working in a health care environment. Incumbent in this position is required to perform drug testing (urine sample collection) in professional environment including preparing bathrooms for testing conditions. Must work day as well as evening and weekend hours as needed. Office and records must be kept secure at all times.
