EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED.
- 2 years’ experience driving a van preferably in a food service environment.
- This position will require a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- At least 50% of the time is spent driving a van to deliver and pick up food and supplies; 50% is spent in the kitchen, cafeteria or storerooms.
SKILLS AND COMPETENTCIES:
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to communicate clearly with management and kitchen personnel.

Responsibilities:
- Deliver and pick up food and associated supplies in and out of the facility to various sites.
- Assist in the preparation of food such as meats, vegetables, baked goods, and desserts, including beverages, salads, dressings, sandwiches, and cold plates. Prepare portioned and fast foods on the grill, in the broiler, or deep-fat fryer as appropriate.
- Operate food production equipment including slicers, choppers, dicers, mixers, vertical cutters, patty-making machines, and other vegetable, bakery, and meat processing equipment.
- Operate cash register at the Basilica of the National Shrine and other venues as needed. Count, compute, and reconcile cash receipts. Complete the Agency form Check/Cash Receipts Log (CR-B) detailing cash collected that will be given to Finance.
- Perform routine cleaning, fueling, lubricating, and servicing of assigned vehicle.
- Transport food or supplies to serving areas; ensure that areas are properly set up; assemble and replenish food, supplies, and equipment as required; ensure proper temperature of food in steam tables and correct counter display.
- Ensure that food handling and related activities comply with food safety standards and DOH regulations.
- Clean assigned areas following proper sanitary procedures, including equipment, counters, work and dining tables, chairs, refrigerators, utensils, and dispensers; sweep and mop floors; vacuum carpets and empty ashtrays.
- Ensure all supplies, materials, and equipment are available in assigned work areas for the proper performance of duties; maintain replenishment as necessary; report the need to repair equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures to the program supervisor.
- Assist in monitoring work and cross-training employees in contract sites and the use of supplies, materials, and equipment as appropriate.
- Assist in the loading/unloading of inbound products.
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement.
