DONOR AND COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Position: Full-Time Donor and Communications Specialist. The Donor and Communication Specialist is responsible for the external communications of the Corporation in order to ensure ongoing communication and awareness of the Corporation and to raise funds for the Corporation through corporate and firm donations. The Donor and Communication Specialist is part of the Grants and Development Team. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Donor Relations

o Overseeing donor campaigns, such as the annual campaign, monthly giving, and planned giving, and the maintenance of the donor database, including thank you notes and ongoing engagement with donors.

o Coordination and support of Board Directors and other volunteers involved in Legal Aid’s fundraising efforts.

o Coordination and support of Legal Aid’s Fundraising Events, including, when applicable Legal Aid’s Anniversary Events.

o Working with the Executive Director to develop relationships with private business to develop collaborative partnerships for future funding.

Communications:

o Coordination and communication with media, including press releases and specific outreach to various culturally focused media.

o Providing support to Legal Aid staff for media appearances and encouraging staff to gather client testimonials to support Legal Aid’s external communication efforts

o Creating Legal Aid’s Newsletter and Legal Aid’s annual report, as well as special communications pieces as needed.

o Overseeing and maintaining Legal Aid’s websites and social media sites in consultation with Managing Attorneys and Directors. This includes development of an annual communications calendar.

Qualifications: Candidates should meet the following minimum job qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field and at least two years of experience writing and developing content for websites, brochures and/or training required
  • Strong writing and editing skills required.
  • Graphic design experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Experience utilizing social medial in a professional setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrable commitment to social justice or experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population, or issues affecting low-income populations required.
  • Experience or knowledge in working with survivors of domestic violence preferred.
  • Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations.
  • Able to meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.

- Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.

Compensation: $$46,455 – $61,654 per year commensurate with experience and qualifications.
