We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist for a short-term 1099 contract, with a potential for extension. This role demands a professional with a proven track record in developing well-structured, editable templates, particularly within Microsoft Word, to enhance a suite of documentation tools. Knowledge of content controls, JavaScript for PDFs, and security settings, is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will possess advanced skills in creating editable, reusable templates and have a deep understanding of documentation best practices and standards, including Section 508 compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop a comprehensive suite of editable and reusable templates in Microsoft Word, incorporating content controls, placeholder text, building blocks, and document protection features to facilitate customization and consistency across documents.
- Ensure all documentation meets Section 508 compliance standards for accessibility, with a strong understanding of both MS Word and Adobe Acrobat's roles in creating accessible content.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure the templates meet both functional and technical specifications.
- Conduct research on the latest trends in documentation best practices, focusing on standards for editable and reusable templates.
- Implement feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement of documentation quality, usability, and compliance.
- Provide expert guidance on documentation structure, design, and content management to ensure quality and consistency.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in technical writing or documentation specialization, with a robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating templates and managing complex documentation projects.
- Required: Proficient in Microsoft Word, especially in designing templates using content controls, building blocks, document protection, and ensuring templates are easily customizable and reusable.
- Preferred: Experience with Adobe Acrobat, including creating interactive PDF forms, using form fields, implementing JavaScript for PDFs, and managing PDF security settings.
- Advanced knowledge of documentation standards and best practices, with a particular focus on Section 508 compliance for accessibility.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, comfortable working with cross-functional teams in a technical environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
