Dock Master

Position Summary:

The Dock Master role is critical to ensure proper management of the throughput of trailers on the Gilmer Sites.

Essential Functions:

• Verifies driver’s pickup or delivery number is for the correct address according to Appointment Scheduler.
• Assigns drivers a dock door based on Inbound or Outbound Load distinction to be in sync with operational needs.
• Responsible for seal verification and integrity on all Inbounds but also responsible for seal placement and pictures taken after doors are closed.
• Conducts a yard audit twice a day for yard accuracy and safety.
• Collaborates with Dock Supervisor to verify dock-lock is engaged properly and verifies the status of the red-light green-light to signify that the light is working properly indicating loading is in progress.
• Regarding safety, ensures all chocks, jack stands, and glad hand locks are in use to secure the trailer and keep the forklift operator safe.
• Tracks all trailers that are completed and verifies the paperwork.
• Coordinates with spot drivers regarding trailers needing service.
• Takes pictures of completed trailer when applicable.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

• Ability to read documentation with comprehension.
• Ability to articulate accurate information between the Office, Dock, and Guard Shack daily.
• Ability to multi-task in fast fast-paced environment.
• Must abide by all safety rules and regulations pertaining to the utility of any equipment but to include the proper locking and securing all trailers according to the process.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with the drivers with professionalism.
• At least 3 years of forklift experience.
• At least 3 years of experience working in a warehouse or in a yard.
• Ability to work extended hours, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as needed.
• High school or GED required.

Work Environment:

• The role requires an employee to work around moving trucks and forklifts.
• The job will occasionally require lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds.
• Able to work in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse (indoor temperature fluctuates through each season).
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
• Personal Protective Equipment is required, including vest and steel toed shoes. Other equipment will be provided as needed.
