A position has been declared open in Weber School District's Educational Equity and Federal Programs Department for Marshallese Interpretersand Translators.This is a part-time position based on need. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED, AFTER A MINIMUM OF 5 WORKING DAYS The Educational Equity and Federal Programs Department is looking for individuals who are interested in providing language translation and interpretation services on an on-call basis during the hours of 7:15 am - 3:15 pm or scheduled by appointment after these hours. An Translator/Interpreter is responsible for facilitating effective communication between individuals or groups who speak different languages. They ensure accurate and culturally sensitive conversation of written text (translation) or spoken language (interpretation) to bridge language gaps and convey meaning.Job Description:Under the direction of the Director of Educational Equity and Federal Programs, the Language Services Team will: Provide real-time interpretation during spoken conversations, meetings and conferences, as assigned.

Maintain neutrality and confidentiality in all interpreted conversations Clarify and provide cultural context when necessary to enhance communicationTranslate written documents, such as texts and articles Ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations while maintaining the original meaning Proofread and edit translations to eliminate errors and improve clarity Adapt content to the cultural nuances of the target audienceAttend professional development and trainings, as assigned Required Skills:Language Proficiency:Possess a minimum of advanced-low level knowledge (or its equivalent) in the target language, including fluency in reading, writing, and speaking. Please refer to the USBE World Language Core Standards for Proficiency. *Excerpt from Utah World Language Core Standards for Proficiency PROFICIENCY LEVELS & EXAMPLES OF WHO IS LIKELY TO FUNCTION AT THAT LEVELAdvanced Mid Heritage speakersInformal learnersNon-Academic learners who have significant contact with languageAdvanced LowUndergraduate language majors with year-long study abroad experienceCultural Competence :Understand cultural nuances and social context to ensure translations and interpretations are culturally appropriate and sensitive Experience working with diverse populations of students and adults in a dynamic, respectful, culturally-responsive wayConfidentiality :Maintain strict confidentiality, especially when handling sensitive student/staff information Attendance :Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary essential function of this job.Preferred Skills:Comfortable with technology Strong organization and communication skillsAbility to take on multiple tasks and meet deadlinesPerforms other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisorA welcoming and helpful demeanorMinimum Job Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent Proof of language proficiency in one of the following ways:Provide a proficiency score from the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) from Language Testing International (LTI)Candidates who do not have an OPI score, may enroll in the free USBE Level I course for Interpreter Certification.

Job related experience, preferred Compensation: Compensation for translators and interpreters varies depending on factors such as language pair, specialization, location, and experience.
