Job Title: District Director - Store Retail
Department: Donated Goods Retail (DGR)
Reports to: Vice President of DGR
FLSA Status: Exempt - Full Time
Salary: $80,000.00 to $100,000.00, Plus 30% Potential Bonus

Position Summary:
Directs and coordinates activities of donated goods retail sales and related support services, including training and team member development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads, directs, and coaches assigned Store and Attended Donation Center (ADC) Managers.
  • Visits Stores and ADCs on a regular basis to review performance and labor utilization and provide technical advice.
  • Proactively suggests and applies solutions to keep donation collection, production, internal/external distribution, and sales processes flowing smoothly.
  • Coordinates schedules and supervises DGR Management to ensure coverage.
  • Ensures statistical counts (i.e., donor counts, apparel hung, rotation count, etc.) are completed in an accurate and timely manner. Regularly reviews and analyzes WESA, cash reports, daily, monthly, and yearly activity reports, transmittal of reports, daily deposits, comment cards, and team meeting minutes to assess trends, monitor progress on goals, and make recommendations for change.
  • Plans and develops donated goods retail activities using all available data, resources, and capabilities to insure continuous performance improvement.
  • Trains and coaches Management in conjunction with Human Resources (HR) and Workforce Development (WFD) to meet GWH objectives; ensures that each Manager progresses within a framework of both professional and personal growth.
  • Assists in hiring and evaluating team members within the framework of GWH policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
  • Originates, implements, and manages special donated goods projects and initiatives to improve efficiency, performance, mission delivery, quality of work, training curricula, and work conditions.
  • Advocates for and supports Community Mission Integration (CMI).
  • Assists in preparing and submitting annual Store budgets and insures the operation of the Stores within budgeted expense-to-revenue ratios.
  • Ensures Stores are well-maintained and adhering to all safety, security, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Approves donated goods purchase orders, work orders, petty cash, and expense reports in accordance with established budget and GWH practices.
  • Demonstrates GWH’s Core Values in all actions.
  • Ensures adherence to GWH’s Guiding Principles (listed below).
  • Assures that all appropriate CARF standards are maintained.
  • Stays abreast of product knowledge, industry trends, and competitive pricing through comparative shopping of competitors (i.e., full or discount retail, consignment, and second-hand thrift).
  • Collaborates marketing efforts with Public Relations (PR) Department as necessary.
  • Attends training as assigned.
  • May be asked to participate in activities outside of GWH.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Prefer at least five (5) years of full-time employment in retail sales at a management level including two years at a multi-unit management level.
  • Proven background in managing people, supervising work duties, and good people skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Prefer experience in merchandising, display, layout, and customer service.
  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising or a related field but not required.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule.

Guiding Principles

9. Hard goods should be priority processed.
10. Material handling equipment is for moving donations, not storage.
11. Don’t fall in love with your donations... rotation is critical to success.
12. Donor Value should increase.
13. Profits should increase.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Physical requirements include the ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance (common items include, bags of clothes/miscellaneous items, televisions, computers, sofas, kitchen appliances, bicycles furniture, and bedroom sets). Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to assist individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
