This position is located in the Department of the Chief Program Officer, AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) in Washington, DC. The Disaster Services Specialist facilitates the Corporation's disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation programming and serves as an on-site coordinator for the Agency's response to Federal, state and local emergencies.Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower-range of the NY-03 pay band, which would be at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
Specialized experience must include all of the following:
1) Working knowledge of emergency/disaster mitigation, response and recovery practices and procedures; and
2) Coordinating resources that provide support for deployments to disaster sites; and
3) Evaluating disaster related program effectiveness.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
