TITLE: Director/ Associate Director ofMajor Gifts & Planned Giving
DEPARTMENT: Development
REPORTS TO: Chief Development and Communications Officer
Employment Status: Full Time
Reg. Hours Worked: 40 / Week, Exempt
Salary: $95,000-130,000 DOE
Director/Associate Director ofMajor Gifts & Planned Giving:
Union Station Homeless Services is heading into an exciting time with its Major Gift and Planned Giving programs. We are in the early stages of preparing for the silent phase of a potential Comprehensive Campaign. This campaign will have both capital and other programmatic fundraising components. The ideal candidate for this role will possess experience with capital or comprehensive campaigns and is a seasoned fundraiser who has successfully closed numerous principle, major, and planned gifts over $100,000. The final title of this position will be based on the amount of experience the candidate bring to the role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
  • Serve as the department lead on major, planned, and corporate giving strategies with an ability to manage another potential gift officer as our fundraising program grows.
  • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a meaningful relationship with Union Station Homeless Services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to retain and upgrade existing Union Station donors who have the potential to become major donors.
  • Cultivate, solicit, close, and steward gifts over $25,000 with a big emphasis on securing gifts of $100,000+.
  • Solicit corporate sponsorships for a variety of USHS events and initiatives.
  • Make solicitations face-to-face, over Zoom, or phone.
  • Identify and qualify new prospective donors who have the affinity and capacity to invest in our work at the Major Gifts level.
  • Work with development, events, communications, programs, and volunteer staff members to develop engagement and cultivation opportunities for major donors.
  • Create donor proposals that are personalized and in alignment with the interests of donors.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of 150 prospective major donors.
  • Conduct an average of 10-15 visits per month.
  • Manage up and across to enable CDCO, Development Committee of the Board of Directors, and the CEO to identify, engage, and solicit Major Gifts.
  • In partnership with the Director of Annual Giving & Engagement, serve as co-lead of the Development Marketing & Communications Committee and future Comprehensive Campaign Committee.
  • Work with the Development Database Manager to effectively use the Raiser's Edge donor database to track, manage and report fundraising efforts and outcomes.
  • Track and report fundraising progress using metrics outlined in collaboration with the CDCO.
  • Maintain memberships and subscriptions to relevant professional organizations, community groups, and research tools.
  • Support the development department's efforts to cultivate relationships with donors who have the potential and proclivity to make planned gifts.
  • Guide donors through the gift planning process including but not limited to bequests, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, and gifts of real-estate.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work indoors in a temperature controlled environment and occasionally exposed to outdoor weather and driving conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Stand and sit for long periods of time; move and walk to various locations.
  • See, hear and speak clearly in order to give and receive information and instructions.
  • Complex reading and writing skills, memorization skills, analytical/perceptive/comprehensive capabilities.
  • Ability to quickly organize and communicate thoughts and to understand communications from others.
  • Ability to work independently, with others, around others, have verbal and face-to-face contact with others.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, clients, customers, and members of the public.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, manage time, adapt to changing work demands, meet deadlines and perform under time constraints.
  • High level of concentration and attention to detail for extended periods of time required.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Requires use of computers for long periods of the day.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Travel to off-site meetings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Outgoing, friendly, and persuasive demeanor with the ability to motivate and inspire
  • Must have excellent judgment, strong ethical and intelligent decision-making ability, and trustworthiness to keep key information in confidence
  • Strong computer skills. Must be proficient with relational databases, MS Office programs (Word and Excel)
  • Must be a reliable and conscientious self-starter, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Passion for fundraising and the mission of Union Station Homeless Services is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Raiser's Edge NXT or other fundraising software is preferred.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required
  • At least 3 years of Major or Planned Giving experience required; 7 years preferred.
  • Experience with soliciting gifts during a capital campaign with capital campaign leadership preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000 or more required
  • Demonstrated ability in soliciting and closing gifts of $1,000,000 or more preferred.
  • 2 years of experience leading fundraising volunteers preferred.
