Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Strategic Engagement, the Director, Major Gifts will oversee an existing portfolio of donors and prospects, and make donor solicitations. You will design and manage cultivation and stewardship of Worldreader’s major donors. The Director, Major Gifts will also create and implement moves management plans and manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects.
This is a full-time remote position, based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Secure Major Gifts at the 5 to 7 figure level with the goal of achieving annual targets.
- Manage relationships with existing Major Gifts donors.
- Responsible for growing the donor pipeline and establishing the strategy and operational tactics for the cultivation of new donors.
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
- Collaborate with the Development team to align efforts and set goals.
- Help create and implement an effective donor stewardship process and acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience with success in securing Major Gifts and managing donor relationships.
- Demonstrated track record in closing individual donors in the $5K-$50K range.
- Experience developing and growing individual donor programs in international development (preferably in education, reading, or literacy).
- Working knowledge of Salesforce or similar donor databases preferred.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional local and domestic travel required.
Salary & Benefits
The annual salary for this position based remotely in the San Francisco Bay Area is between $105-115K.
Final salary within this adjusted range will also be determined by the candidate’s years and type of experience and qualifications.
