Overall purpose of role
In this role, counsel will support Barclays' US Macro in connection with legal and regulatory matters and the Risk Solutions Group - Americas ("RSG"), a hybrid, private-side sales group that bridges investment banking and US Macro trading, and, from time to time assisting with projects sponsored by Legal.
Key Accountabilities
The role requires:
Having subject-matter expertise across a full range of fixed-income products;
Drafting and negotiating trading documentation for vanilla and bespoke transactions;
Communicating, in a precise and clear manner, one's legal analysis and conclusions both verbally and in writing to relevant stakeholders;
Identifying issues and coordinating decision-making in connection with the structuring of transactions and resolution of attendant issues;
Acting as a point of contact to resolve and, as appropriate, to escalate legal and regulatory issues;
Participating in Barclays' internal business-approval processes and risk and governance committees;
Coordinating, and developing partnerships, with the other regional Macro and RSG Legal Advisory teams as well as Compliance professionals to ensure consistent and comprehensive coverage of legal, regulatory and governance issues for US Macro and RSG;
Facilitating and sharing of legal expertise and know-how to promote efficient legal coverage; and
Staying abreast of legal and regulatory developments that affect Macro and RSG.
Working closely with, and communicating directly to, senior Legal Advisory colleagues and relevant stakeholders, including Managing Directors and Directors in US Macro sales and trading, RSG, Credit Risk, Compliance, Business Management and Operations;
Taking a leading role on various legal and regulatory matters;
Fostering a strong team dynamic across US Macro Legal Advisory;
Demonstrating initiative as new challenges, developments and issues arise; and
Possessing the judgment and skills to persuade and to direct various stakeholders in seeking the best outcomes for Barclays.
What we're looking for:
B.A. / B.S. and a J.D.
Admission to the New York State Bar
10 years of legal experience advising on derivative products in FX and Rates (derivatives and cash products), including knowledge of the laws and regulations applicable to derivatives and exempt securities.
Experience at a law firm handling relevant transactions or relevant experience in-house within the legal department of an investment bank.
