PRIME AE Group, Inc. (www.primeeng.com), a multi-faceted and rapidly growing A/E firm with 20 office locations in ten states and over 475 employees throughout the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Northeast, is seekinga Director of Transportation – Ohio Highway Designfor our Columbus office.
Position Overview:
As the Director of Transportation, the primary focus of this role will be to lead the office with full control and internal resources support/Executive support for success, recruit other qualified individuals, and pursue new Highway opportunities mainly in Ohio.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee the work of Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
- Perform technical work to support our other Highway projects.
- Assist with the development of preliminary design through construction documents, cost estimates and specifications development.
- Provide Quality control and oversee the preparation of detailed highway engineering design / analysis. Including reports, plans, specifications and estimates.
- Coordinate and work with other design teams and assess the activities and deliverables of the various subconsultants and disciplines associated with the project.
- Develop and mentor the transportation engineering skillsets of junior and entry level design engineers.
- Serves as a leader to our highway professionals to ensure they have the necessary support in programming, technology and talent to deliver services with the highest quality.
- Participate in marketing for projects. Identifies potential clients and potential projects/opportunities. Participate in firm meet and greets and interviews.
- Assists in preparation of SOI’s, Technical and Price Proposals, response to RFP’s, advertisements and solicitations.
- Participate in professional organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, ASHTO and the regional ASHTO affiliates.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent (MS preferred).
- Ohio PE certification.
- 15 - 20 years of transportation experience in a leadership role.
- Solid professional relationships with important clients.
- Significant technical and management level experience with ODOT projects.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to author proposals.
- Ability to work effectively with little supervision.
- Ability to recruit qualified candidates to staff a growing office.
