You are a natural problem-solver with an eye for detail. As the Director, Risk Underwriting at Justworks, you will be responsible for managing and developing teams of underwriters and underwriting assistants who perform new business and renewal pricing as well as building a world-class loss control function that will help Justworks' thousands of customers operate in a compliant and safe manner. Additionally you will oversee and implement broad risk management strategies within our company. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with various aspects of our workers' compensation, employment practices liability, and corporate insurance operations, ensuring the company's long-term sustainability and compliance with industry regulations. This leadership position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in workers' compensation underwriting and risk management.

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of competitive pricing models and strategic renewal approaches for workers' compensation insurance to maximize profitability and client retention.
  • Achieve business goals through development, articulation, and application of strategy, initiatives, and underwriting policy.
  • Identify, anticipate, and assess critical issues that could significantly impact financial results. Take decisive, unbiased action to address these matters, ensuring sustainable and positive financial performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the teams to assess and understand employment practices liability (EPL), corporate and financial related risks.
  • Advise customers on risk mitigation strategies and best practices. And ensure the implementation of risk management measures tailored to individual customer needs.
  • Stay abreast of industry regulations and ensure the company's compliance with relevant laws and standards. Develop and maintain policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements. Serve as a subject matter expert on regulatory matters related to PEO operations.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance risk awareness among customers and members. Foster a culture of risk management and compliance throughout the organization.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends and potential areas of risk exposure. Prepare and present regular reports to executive leadership on the status of risk management initiatives.
  • Participate in a firm-wide enterprise risk management committee, including regular risk assessments and scenario planning.
  • People Leadership: Develop and maintain high standards for recruiting, hiring, and performance management; attract and retain world-class talent, building a high-performing organization. Cultivate an environment where people can do their best work, develop deep subject matter expertise, and grow their leadership skills.
  • Other duties as needed based on department and/or organizational needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management, with at least 5 years of experience leading a team.
  • In-depth experience with workers' compensation insurance.
  • Experience with employment practices liability, and common corporate insurance preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of PEO operations, industry regulations, and risk management best practices.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Expertise in designing and setting up the underwriting policy and monitoring compliance.
  • Professional certifications/designations such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) are a plus.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience within a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), Temporary Staffing, or other similar industry

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $198,000.00 - $237,600.00 per year.

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location. Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
