Job Overview
Reporting directly to the CTO Medical, our Director of R&D will be a highly talented individual who has a strong working knowledge of our customers’ requirements and who can articulately synthesize complex technological issues into solution design concepts or requirements. The Director of R&D will have global responsibility for the Development Engineering organization in our Medical Devices product business unit. Focusing on the delivery of customer product and process development needs, the Leader will need a deep understanding of the technologies and manufacturing processes used in our products along with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary global engineering organization to deliver business needs. We have teams located across the US with hubs in Minnesota and Galway, Ireland. Our position can be based remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team in the development of products & processes to ensure device design passes timely and in budget transition through stage gates into long term operations/manufacturing.
- Ensure a prioritized focus on ECE (Extraordinary Customer Experience)
- Work closely with existing and potential customers in selling our capabilities.
- Represent Device Engineering during all customer visits, technology days and executive presentations.
- Drive innovation and technical problem solving within the portfolio.
- Drive a culture of innovation, winning spirit and success.
- Partner with Cross Functional Team in enabling the success of all new product development efforts.
- Work closely with our Commercial and Business Development Organizations to support new business initiatives.
- Partner with the CTO, Business Development and Commercial in the development of innovative solutions or platforms that can help our customers to win in their markets.
- Align with Operations to set clear expectations regarding transferring new products into manufacturing.
- Partner with Product Management in overall Portfolio decisions and commitments.
- Attract and retain top engineering talent across the Device organization.
- Develop and manage a high performing organization which is fit for purpose.
- Drive accountability in their teams to meet project objectives and milestones.
- Support employees in reaching their career potential, utilizing the available resources (both system and process) and creating development plans that meet theirs and the business expectations.
- Upskill and develop the R&D and Product Management teams to ensure effective execution of the existing and future portfolio.
- Own and manage functional budget.
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% annually.
The Profile
The preferred candidate for this position is:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering. MBA/master’s preferred.
- 10+ years of demonstrated Engineering Management experience in Medical Device Manufacturing or Technology, working with internal and external customers required.
- Ability to act as TE and customer advocate.
- Experience in functional management of development of engineering teams.
- Track record in leading a large global technical engineering team.
- Demonstrated business acumen and confidence communicating to senior management and customers.
- Ability to both develop and champion vision for Device Engineering while prioritizing key initiatives.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, problem solving required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in on-line collaboration tools, and databases required.
- Strong knowledge of equipment & process automation.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and programs and meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Experience in Product/Project Lifecycle implementation and strong process and systems understanding preferred.
- Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and component or assembly design principles required.
- Proven experience in process development.
- Knowledge of FDA regulations preferred.

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $186,480.00 – $279,720.00 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
