Director, Professional Services

Position Profile:

This is a full-time, permanent position. The Director, Professional Services (PS) is responsible for Consulting Services and Project Management Office (PMO) and will lead the overall PS team strategy, develop new services, and outline and implement best practices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, advising, coaching and leading the Consulting and PMO teams on project delivery, solution development and deployment, and revenue generation responsibilities. This individual is responsible for managing approximately 10-15 direct reports.

This is a critical and visible role as it involves support for many of RKON’s accounts. The Director, Professional Services is the escalation point of contact for all customers within their corresponding sales organization. The Director will work with the sales organization to ensure successful customer deployment and high customer satisfaction. 

The Director, Professional Services will also serve our Private Equity and Corporate clients with a focus on corporate divestiture/carve-out transactions and post-merger integration leadership roles. This includes sell-side readiness, pre-close IT and operations carve-out due diligence, Day One readiness planning and post-close program leadership.

This role will require expertise across a wide range of skill sets including problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, expert organization and prioritization skills, and cross-team collaboration. You must demonstrate expert communication and change management skills, have broad experience with account management including value-based selling, services positioning, and strong people focused management approach.

Responsibilities include:

Client Delivery:

  • Execute IT and operational carve-out / merger strategy and due diligence projects (both sell-side and buy-side) – manage client relationships, startup and plan diligence, lead discovery workshops, assess the operating model environment (people, processes, and technology), develop recommendations for one-time transition costs and go-forward operating model (run rate costs).

  • Support program management in leading multiple work streams for IT and operational transaction execution initiatives including Day One readiness and longer-term transition projects – interfacing to client and/or PE executive sponsors.

  • Apply functional knowledge in key shared services (e.g. finance & accounting, human resources, IT), etc.

  • Manage project economics including project budget tracking, client invoicing and receivables management.

Practice Development:

  • Contribute to the development/enhancement of RKON’s market-leading methodologies, artifacts and practice strategy.

  • Mentor and develop direct reports on the job through training/certification, formal feedback and performance management process that enables them to deliver value to customers.

  • Lead a team of Professional Services consultants and project managers efficiently and effectively by defining critical KPIs.

  • Work closely with your corresponding sales organization to ensure customer needs are met and customer satisfaction continues to rank high.

  • Responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of engagements for RKON’s largest and most complex customers.

  • Manage business forecasting and P&L.

  • Oversee capacity planning and resource management for your various practices.

  • Work with your direct reports to ensure your team is continuing to address the go-forward needs of the organization such as ensuring technical resources are receiving appropriate training to stay up on product advances, or processes are being updated due to changes in the business.

  • Present updates to the executive team identifying risks, challenges and proposed solutions.

Revenue Generation:

  • Assist in business development meetings with prospective clients including private equity, enterprise, mid-market and M&A, lead the preparation of proposals and statements of work for pre- and post-close opportunities.

  • Understand investment needs and requirements and help turn those goals into concrete engagements and detailed proposals.

  • Lead estimations for the projects and drive the creation and execution lifecycle of the SOWs.

  • Actively build a professional and affiliate network in the community.

  • Attend networking events and business-related social events in the M&A community.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience required.

  • Minimum of 10+ years participating in team-based, client-facing management, or technology consulting or IT M&A experience at corporate strategic client or company.

  • Minimum of 8+ years executing Infrastructure implementation projects (Networks, Systems, Modern Workforce) or IT applications (e.g. ERP).

  • Proven contributor with extensive ability to build solid and collaborative relationships with team members, foster a productive team environment and coach staff.

  • Industry experience in Manufacturing, Distribution, Healthcare, or High-Tech/Technology companies is preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Strong project management methodology background, including schedule, scope, issue and risk management experience.

  • Proven ability to lead others in official responsibilities as well as informal coaching (mentor).

  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability in both technical and business areas.

  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities concurrently.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications and customer relations skills.

  • Self-confidence, tact, and professionalism.

  • The ability to travel is flexible but could be up to 30% based on customer needs.

Preferred Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent skills
