In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains.  Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products.  At API, you’ll join a global network of manufacturing professionals who are passionate about what they do.

The Position

Key responsibilities of this role include developing and implementing strategies to optimize asset performance, ensuring the reliability and availability of critical equipment, managing maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency, overseeing metrology operations to ensure accurate measurements, leading engineering projects to improve plant performance, managing black utilities to ensure uninterrupted operations, and overseeing wastewater treatment plant operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Build strong relationships and communications with stakeholders, and have a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental compliance. Align Production Support behaviors and performance to enable API M-US "to be the most reliable API producer with the highest engaged people." Meets or exceeds customer, business, & regulatory requirements in accordance with Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Relationships

Reports to Corporate Vice President (CVP).

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all Black Utilities, including Water, Electrical, Plant Steam, Life Saftey Detection and Waste Systems
  • Responsible for operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, keeping within environmental permit limits
  • Responsible for the site Asset Management and Reliability Excellence program, enabling the site to be the “most reliable API producer” including the areas of Asset Data Management, Reliability Engineering, Technical Warehouse and Planning
  • Responsible for the site Maintenance Execution and Metrology & Calibration programs, ensuring proper reliability centered maintenance and keeping instruments within specification
  • Responsible for site Mechanical Engineering, leading innovation and mechanical expertise, supporting the entire site
  • Responsible for leading and managing site Shutdowns
  • Ensure positive & engaging working relationship with stakeholders while providing world-class support
  • Ensure continuous development of Production Support teammates
  • Responsible for continuous improvements activities, capacity & unit cost improvements
  • Financial management and fiscal responsibility for Production Support
  • Participate as member of the API M-US Senior Leadership Team in setting plant goals, objectives, & priorities
  • Quality, CGMP compliance & environmental management
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. (% can change on a case by case basis based on the role).

     

    Development of People

    Supervisory, ensure that reporting personnel have Individual Development Plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Business, or relevant field of study from an accredited university required
    • Master’s Degree or Ph.D in Science, Engineering, Business, or relevant field of study from an accredited university preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of leadership/management/supervisory experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or process required, preferably experience in pharmaceutical or other regulated industries
  • Knowledgeable in pharmaceutical industry systems, to include parenteral drug production preferred
  • Proven expertise in mentoring/development, change management, planning/organizing, managing execution, & revising the work plan for complex problems solved by cross functional teams required
