Job description

Basic Function:

Oversee, develop, plan and implement youth, after-school, summer, MyCom OST-ELO, MyCom 2.0 and recreational programming. Ensure that programs operate in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Merrick House.
  • Coordinate all assigned services to create greater flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the needs of program participants and their families.
  • Direct the day-to-day operations of Youth, after-school, summer and recreational programming.
  • Responsible for program planning, outcomes and performance in all assigned programs.
  • Prepare and maintain participant data and program reports in accordance with grant and contract guidelines.
  • Develop and recommend short and long-range objectives consistent with the Strategic Plan.
  • Expand program services by partnering with other youth service providers and the business community in Tremont and Greater Cleveland.
  • Participate in contract, grant and budget preparation for recreation, youth and MyCom.
  • Develop effective relationships with families of program participants and interested government agencies, schools, community and civic organizations to increase program effectiveness, promote goodwill and enhance the image of Merrick House.
  • Oversee Youth Opportunities Unlimited school year and summer work experiences and training.
  • Oversee recreation Contracts and Memorandums of Understanding to provide services. Assure that all financial obligations are met by clients and the contractor.
  • Attend community and various meetings as needed.
  • Assist with the marketing of programs to potential participants, funders and the general community in accordance with the Marketing and Communications Plan.
  • Ensure financial viability of all youth, after-school and summer programs. Review contract performance with Exec Director. Make adjustments as needed.
  • Initiate personnel actions such as recruitment, selection, transfers, promotions and disciplinary or dismissal measures for assigned support staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Combination of education and experience normally represented by a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public, Business Administration or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • From five to seven years fiscal, administrative a supervisory experience required with experience in grant and fund solicitation preferred.
  • Must have five years of management experience in social service agency or private sector required.
  • Must have the ability to relate to a wide variety of persons, both professional and volunteers as well as organizations and systems, both public and private.
  • Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent leadership and organizational skills, strong detail oriented skills with the ability to supervise and work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to actively interact with clients by having good dexterity with ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel and the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and squat.
  • Must have ability to work independently and be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to coordinate, prioritize and respond to multiple issues at the same time.
  • Willingness to work a diverse schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR (infant, child and adult), Child Abuse Recognition, and Communicable Disease Recognition or attained within Six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Physical examination by a licensed physician required.
  • Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
