Job Description:
The Director of the Centerfor Student Leadership and Involvement will provide overall administrative oversight for the Centerfor Student Leadership and Involvement (CSLI). The Director is a critically important leadership position within Student Affairs and the College. The Director will provide leadership for the development and maintenance of a complex and comprehensive Leadership and student activities program and provide expansive leadership opportunities for a diverse student population. This professional will work collaboratively with faculty, staff and various departments and college constituencies to engage students outside of the classroom to enhance the college experience through student engagement, leadership development opportunities and programming to serve the campus community.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Director of the Centerfor Student Leadership and Involvement responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program of student activities and Student Leadership development.
  • Serve as the advisement/administrative representative for the Student Government Association (SGA).
  • Oversight of student clubs: registration, event oversight, insurance/risk management, policy development, Student Union space management, operations compliance and assessment.
  • Fiscal and programming approval, development and on-site large-scale event oversight - Fraternity and Sorority Life, LGBTQIA, Diversity & Inclusion, Multicultural Center, SGA, Student Clubs/Organizations, L.E.A.D, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, Commuter events and late night/weekend events.
  • Supervise professional staff members and SGA staff members, including the Business Manager and Operations Manager.
  • In accordance with best practices and national standards, design, implement and assess a competitive Student Leadership recruitment and engagement model, learning based training practices and a curricular based programming model for Student Leadership development.
  • Promote and support the conceptual understanding of the role of Student Affairs in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
  • Manage complex budgets and authorize appropriate expenditures.
  • Represent CSLI at various campus events, such as open house, admitted student events, and orientation.
  • Utilize Engage software system and serve as a main resource for Students, faculty and staff.
  • Advise the Student Government Association 501(c)3, manage fiscal oversight, which includes contracts, external audits, tax preparation and filings.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and needs in the student population.
  • Serve as a member of the Dean of Students Management Team.
  • Represent the Associate Dean of Students and/or the Division of Student Affairs in various meetings on and off campus.
  • Serve in the absence of the Associate Dean of Students.
  • Serve on committees as assigned which include the Students of Concern Committee, Strategic Planning Team, and other campus wide committees.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, ideology, religion, national origin and other areas of diversity.
  • Enforce campus policies including the SUNY Board of Trustees policies and other related federal, state, and local laws.
  • In addition, the Director of CSLI will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education and Administration or a related field where transferable skills apply.
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of full-time, professional experience in higher education with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience with complex budgets and contracts.
  • Experience with student engagement software, such as EAB, Banner and Engage.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills using a variety of styles and techniques appropriate to the audience.
  • Basic counseling, mediation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex or ambiguous policies, rules, laws, or regulations.
  • The candidate must be available to work a flexible schedule, including one evening shift per week and large scale events.
  • Experience working with a diverse college student population.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education and Administration.
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years of full-time, professional experience in higher education with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Prior experience supervising a Student Government Association.
  • Supervision experience overseeing full time staff.

Additional Information:
Salary Range: $60,773.00 - $75,000.00
