Director of Technology
Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Tech Director is the sole technology person in a 450 student, 50 staff member K-8 charter school, managing a 1-1 iPad deployment. The role requires day to day Mobile Device Management through JAMF Schools, user management through Apple School Manager, Google Admin, and Clever, as well as integrations with a variety of educational content vendors. As well, the position entails providing professional development and support to teachers and staff as they decide how to use and manage technology in the classroom, and introducing technology concepts to students in the K-5 age range.
Essential Functions (Daily):
  • Provide real-time tech support for students, teachers, staff, and administration with Apple-based technology throughout the school (Epson projectors, AppleTVs, iPads, Macs).
  • Ensure that every student and staff member has a working iPad in hand to start their classes. This includes setting up and providing iPads for those students who have broken, lost, or forgotten them.
  • Ensure that teachers and students have the correct apps and web pages that they need to access curriculum and online systems.
  • Maintain content filters on all devices to protect student and staff data and privacy.
  • Maintain Macs, PCs, and iPads for administrators, teachers, and staff members.
  • Repair and replace devices that are damaged or non-functional throughout the building.
  • Interact with customer support from vendors including Apple, JAMF, Clever, McGraw Hill, Epic!, Lexia, STM, Logitech, Prodigy, Carnegie Learning, IXL, Xerox, and others to troubleshoot issues throughout the building.
  • Manage deployment, use, and data management of state testing systems, including Pearson, NWEA, Dibels, and others.
  • Maintain and improve building-wide infrastructure systems including phones (3CX), alarms (Resideo), projectors (Epson & AppleTV), printing (Xerox), networking (Cisco Meraki), cameras (Meraki), and external door access (OpenPath).
  • Track inventory for all devices owned by West Ridge Academy.
  • Teach K-5 tech specials, introducing tech concepts and iPad use to students, about 10 hours per week.

Ongoing Activities include:
  • Onboard, offload, maintain and archive new staff data.
  • Creating and maintaining student rosters and logins through all digital systems.
  • Qualify, adopt, roster, and implement new applications and curriculum as selected by the administration.
  • Interface with the administration both at West Ridge Academy and in District 6 to ensure an accurate and consistent flow of data between all systems.
  • Attend, record, and post WRA public board meetings. Post agendas, videos, and minutes online.
  • Support West Ridge Academy's online presence, including the wrak8.org webpage, YouTube channel, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
  • All other duties as necessary and assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • The ability to talk with children, adults, administrators, board members, and vendors about technology.
  • A deep knowledge of mobile device management, specifically within the Apple ecosystem (iPad, Mac, AppleTV).
  • A basic knowledge of networking and technological infrastructure.
  • Problem solving skills, and the ability to scale up solutions rapidly.
  • Budget conscious decision making skills. Knowing where and how to apply resources when necessary.
  • The ability to thrive individually and in ambiguity, in an educational environment where solutions need to be delivered and communicated rapidly.
  • Preferred classroom experience, to understand the teacher and student mindset and which solutions work best in a K-8 environment.

Qualification Profile
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Master's Degree in related field preferred.
Experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in use of Technology to support instruction.
  • Formal training (courses, workshops, conferences) in use and implementation of Technology in a school setting.
  • Successful experience training others and serving as a resource in use of Technology.
  • Experience using a network to store, retrieve, and disseminate files and documents to end-users.
  • Software troubleshooting experience.
  • Successful supervisory experience.
Compensation:
$67,000 - $90,000 plus Benefits
FLSA Status: Exempt
