Job Summary: Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Provide clinical leadership, strategic and long term goals for the nursing staff. Determine, assign and assess performance objectives for the department. Organize, coordinate, develop and review policies, procedures and nursing protocols to meet all regulatory, compliance and quality care standards.
Responsible for the quality of care, operational and financial efficiency of the unit. Lead and develop the nursing staff within the unit, providing performance goals, feedback and development opportunities. Develop and oversee function/departmental budget and reporting. Direct and conduct recruitment, hiring and training of personnel. Chair committees as assigned.
Provide direct care as needed. Role assumes 24/7 responsibility of Director’s assigned areas.
Responsibilities:
• Active and current Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina.
• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven leadership ability and hospital operational ability.
• Ability to serve as role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing.

Essential Functions
- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organizations.
- Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
- Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
- Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree from recognized college or university required (BSN preferred)
Master's Degree highly preferred
Required:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
BLS required
Licenses: Current NC RN licensure.
