Santa Barbara Humane is seeking a Director of Shelter Services at our Santa Maria Campus. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team in all aspects of daily shelter operations and client services at a progressive open-door, managed admission shelter located along the gorgeous Central Coast.
Our Director of Shelter Services collaborates with SBH departments and partners to manage adoption-driven capacity, humane sheltering, and animal placements through medical treatment, enrichment, foster care, behavior modification, transfers, and marketing. It’s both a boots-on-the-ground job and a significant leadership position that contributes to our strategic approach and overall success.
The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of animal welfare management experience, enjoys multi-tasking and team building, is enthralled by cat and dog behavior, and has a full understanding and commitment to Socially Conscious Sheltering.
Santa Barbara Humane is our county’s largest non profit animal welfare organization, with two campuses each providing low-cost veterinary services, affordable dog training, volunteer opportunities, and of course, animals looking for new families. Our Santa Maria Campus handles approximately 1200 owner-surrendered and transfer animals a year with a crew of eight Animal & Client Care Specialists, two Behavior Specialists, and dedicated volunteers.
