About Us:

Middle River Aerostructure Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of thrust reversers (the braking system on a jet engine), engine nacelle components and specialized aerostructures. It supplies and supports these products for engine makers, airplane manufacturers and aircraft operators. Located on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, MRAS has a 1.7-million sq. ft. facility situated on 180 acres - where the company and its predecessors have designed, built, and equipped civil and military aircraft for over 90 years. In 2019, MRAS was acquired by ST Engineering North America, the U.S. affiliate of Singapore-based ST Engineering - becoming a part of its global network of aerospace facilities and offices. With the ownership change, the company was renamed Middle River Aerostructure Systems.


Role Summary/Purpose:

The Director of Quality will be responsible for leading and managing the Quality Department Team overseeing all quality improvement processes. The Director of Quality plans and directs quality control programs designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established both external and internal standards and customer requirements. This role is responsible for working to improve the organization's efficiency and profitability by eliminating defects and focusing on continuous improvement processes through AS13100 and Six Sigma processes.

  

Essential Responsibilities:

Drive improved reliability, quality, and risk reduction relative to inspection and quality processes using AS13100 and Sig Sigma Methodologies.

Employ quality engineering statistical methodologies to ensure that safety, reliability, and process capability goals are achieved, maintained, and improved.

Systematically drive the process control metrics that facilitate progressive optimization of inspection requirements.

Educate production and engineering teams on quality control issues to improve overall production quality.

Provide clear and timely communication to customers, Suppliers, and staff when discussing quality issues such as reporting findings on inspection reports, determining capability, understanding design intent, concessions, non-conformance, etc.

Train and develop skills of new Quality Engineers. Oversee the proper use of AS13100, MSA and APQP/PPAP process to ensure full drawing and specification compliance.

Responsible for providing leadership and day-to-day technical direction and support in executing product quality processes and other related quality management system activities.

Participate in design development projects and review meetings to ensure quality control has the required resources to inspect products and ensure customer requirements are being met.

Develop a culture of Quality across the entire organization through collaborating and training.

Ensures all work is in compliance with environmental, health and safety standards, industry specifications, customer requirements, company standard, related specifications and protection of proprietary information, risk management and other policies, procedures and processes.

Identifying and implementing tactical and strategic initiatives for the organization to standardize and/or improve product, quality design or manufacturing and/or process.

Drives execution rigor Interface with leadership on various initiatives to support strategic decision making, maintain strong communication, and establish cross-functional operating mechanisms.

Present Quality program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leaders.

Input and influence decisions within own discipline and area.

Communicate recommendations and solutions across direct organization and with cross-functional organizations.

Involved in complex decision making, sometimes with external parties.


Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in an engineering or business-related field and a minimum of 10+ years of experience in quality assurance/manufacturing.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Sr. Leadership position.

A thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques (8D, 5-Why, etc.). This includes knowledge of management and planning tools, quality tools, preventive, and corrective actions, and how to overcome barriers to quality improvements.

Must be skilled in planning and organizing, conflict management, coaching others, talent selection, developing others, decision making and building relationships.

Must have strong authorship and be able to critically review investigations with Quality risk management principles.

  

Desired Characteristics:

Experience with composites and assembly manufacturing processes and standards.

Experience with technical writing (manufacturing planning, blueprints, and specifications).

Experience with quality tools including root cause and corrective action, QMS (AS9100 Rev. D) and process/product auditing and statistical analysis of Quality metrics.

Experience with establishing priorities, work independently and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

Excellent communication to all levels of the organization, team-building skills, and the ability to influence.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience leading and implementing change.

Detail oriented and strong computer skills.

Experience with ERP software applications and Microsoft Applications.

Auditing experience (ASQ/ AS9100/ISO 9001 and customer flow down requirements).
