The salary range represents the earning potential for this position, through training, evaluations and years spent working in this position with CCS.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Director of Philanthropy in the DIST Development Office Division.

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Foundation at Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS), the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for managing an integrated program for fundraising, donor cultivation and donor stewardship for the CCS Foundation. This position is a direct fundraising position; a successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to serve as a senior member of the CCS Foundation's disciplined, student-centered philanthropy program, with the expectation of meeting a personal annual fundraising goal while providing leadership and strategic direction to other fundraising team members. The Director of Philanthropy will be one of the primarily public-facing staff positions at CCS and as such will be expected to represent CCS' priorities and initiatives in a positive fashion.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and carry out comprehensive strategies to build, cultivate and steward relationships with donors, funding organizations, internal (faculty & staff) and external audiences to meet a personal annual fundraising goal of $500K+ (determined annually in collaboration with Executive Director). *
  • Set strategy and provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and (as determined by Executive Director) supervise/direct Foundation fundraising team members as they carry out the Foundation's activities to meet a shared team annual fundraising and campaign goals. *
  • Manage the ongoing identification, relationship-building, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects (both individuals and corporate/foundation partners) with a financial capacity to make major gift, planned/estate gift or grant commitments to the Foundation. *
  • Develop written proposals, reports, and collateral material as needed to support solicitations and stewardship activities with annual, major gifts, and planned giving/estate donors. *
  • Implement donor stewardship processes and activities that clarify, implement, monitor and honor donors' intent and instructions. *
  • Serve as an active prospect identifier, targeting prospects for "moves management" including recommending for personal visits and cultivation for major gifts or planned giving. *
  • Involve and engage donor prospects in the daily life of SCC and SFCC to create high-touch personal communications, visits, program tours, and exceptional donor service. *
  • Meet with CCS staff and faculty members to obtain a deep understanding of college programs, to engage college faculty and staff in development and donor relations activities and establish strong partnerships with campus community. *
  • Organize strategies and briefings for the Executive Director, CCS Cabinet, and Foundation Board, as appropriate, to facilitate and support their involvement in stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of donors. *
  • Assume management of special projects and duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform all related duties as required. *

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree from an accredited institution
  • Four (4) years progressively responsible relevant experience, which includes:
    • two (2) years of full-time fundraising experience,
    • demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission,
    • evidence of ability to plan and execute a fund drive,
    • demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitations of $5,000 +.
  • Or comparable experience, which includes:
    • progressively responsible full-time consultative sales,
    • demonstrated ability to build long term relationships with clients,
    • program oversight and management,
    • ability to achieve clearly defined goals and objectives,
    • demonstrated record of sales success.
  • Ability to establish and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, develop and steward client/donor relationships.
  • Outstanding motivational and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly collaborative, fast-paced and goal-oriented environment.

    CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
    TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS: $96,268 - $107,392.
    Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:
    • Base compensation of $72,814 - $82,312, plus
    • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus
    • Median retirement fund contributions.

    The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.
    Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.
    Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Work is performed in an office environment as well as other locations for fundraising events and campaigns.
    • Work is occasionally active.
    • Move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
    • Frequent use of computers.
    • Work directly with students/clients.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    • Contract 12-month position.
    • Position is exempt from Fair Labors Standards Act (FLSA).
    • Criminal background check is required.
    • Ability to travel locally as well as occasional out-of-town travel.
