Position Summary
The Director of Network Operations will play a pivotal role in overseeing the strategic planning, development, and management of our Network Operations. This individual will lead a team of professionals in ensuring the highest levels of Network performance, reliability, and security. Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, the Director of Network Operations will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, optimizing network infrastructure, and leading technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans for Network Operations that align with the company's objectives, focusing on scalability, reliability, and innovation.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Network Operations team, setting clear objectives and KPIs, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Network Performance: Ensure the highest levels of Network performance, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network infrastructure to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and customer expectations.
- Security and Compliance: Oversee network security protocols, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data. Stay abreast of regulatory compliance requirements affecting Network Operations and ensure adherence.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with vendors, service providers, and other stakeholders. Negotiate contracts and manage service levels to ensure value and performance.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the Network Operations budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost efficiency.
- Technology Leadership: Keep abreast of emerging network technologies and industry trends. Champion the adoption of new technologies and practices that can enhance operational efficiency and offer competitive advantages.
- Incident and Crisis Management: Lead the response to network incidents and outages, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal impact on business operations. Develop and refine disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or telecommunications.
- 5+ years of experience in Network Operations or a related field, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in network infrastructure, protocols, and security practices. (BGP Anycast / BGP communities and traffic engineering / Kentik / netflow/sflow / Ansible / Linux scripting)
- Knowledge of Juniper switching (any of EX, PTX, QFX, etc)
- Ability to turn up BGP with transits and public/IX peers
- Understanding of OSI layers 1 through 3
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting ECMP and LACP
- Excellent strategic planning and project management skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of engaging effectively with technical teams, senior management, and external partners.
- Experience in vendor management and technology procurement.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements affecting Network Operations.
