Leveraging our collective assets and fostering a healthy, supportive, and open team culture, we deliver a holistically gratifying experience that guests can only get at Target.

As the Director of Loyalty, Card and Payments Strategy, you’ll be a driving force in the success of Target’s suite of financial products and payment options including co-branded Mastercard, private label credit card, debit card, reloadable, buy now pay later, and more. In this role you will lead strategy, program design, benefits, new product development, and integration into the broader loyalty ecosystem in service of growing guest loyalty, increasing incremental sales and profitability, improving guest experience, and reducing the cost of payment acceptance.

To advance toward these goals you and your team will showcase your expertise in collaboration and communication by building partnerships across marketing, insights, product, operations, finance, and risk teams in addition to external issuer and network partners. You will leverage guest insights and industry expertise to continually evaluate our strategy for product and feature gaps, build and champion a strategic roadmap, influence project prioritization, ensure the successful execution of key initiatives, and deliver on financial and strategic objectives. You will be accountable to drive progress toward KPIs including acquisition, usage, penetration, profitability, etc. Additionally, you will provide expertise and perspective on the changing payments landscape and advance the evolution of Target’s acceptance strategy including mobile wallet, contactless, and payment apps in partnership with enterprise services, digital, product, and finance.

This role requires a skilled leader who excels at strategy development, influencing others in a highly matrixed organization, and executing initiatives to drive business impact in a fast-paced, complex retail organization. Additionally, this leader will also focus heavily on team, talent, and culture – developing others while living and championing Target’s values.

About you

  • Experienced leader skilled at developing and executing complex multi-year strategies.

  • Ability to lead multiple projects wing-to-wing from ideation through execution while staying organized and on task.

  • Critical thinker who easily connects the dots across multiple inputs including various business opportunities, insights, constraints, and experience to discern the best course of action.

  • Skilled collaborator and expert at leading in a matrixed organization, gaining alignment across functions, and influencing without authority.

  • High levels of drive and the ability to lead change in a fast-paced retail organization.

  • Expert communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to inspire others.

  • Proactive, takes the initiative to act, and operates with high levels of accountability.

  • Deep understanding and subject matter expert in the loyalty and Payments landscape, especially operating in a regulated environment.

  • Highly inquisitive and curious, continuously monitoring industry peers to identify emerging trends, threats, and best practices.

  • A skilled people leader who sets a vision, provides clarity for their team, and fosters a culture of empowerment and growth while championing Target’s values.

  • 8-12 + years related work experience (credit card, banking, FinTech, loyalty, or retail experience in strategy, P&L leadership, marketing, product development, etc.)
