Summary
The Director of Live Hog Operations oversees all aspects of Niman Ranch’s hog procurement program, including relationships with network of family farmers, Live Hog logistics, field team performance, fiscal year planning/forecasting, procurement/contracts and all other activities that support the procurement of Niman Ranch eligible market hogs.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversight/leadership of the Field Agent team, Logistics team, and Weaned Pig Manager
- Forecasting (fiscal year and five year outlook) for market hog availability and hog cost
- Growth modeling and acquisition of new farmers
- Development of contracts, pricing mechanisms and other programs
- Farmer event planning, educational Zoom session planning and team educations opportunities
- Collaborations with marketing and communications to tell brand story
- Farmer outreach and relationship building
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or other relevant agriculture field and 7+ years of experience in niche market/all natural/ABF swine production
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably with remote teams
- Ability to travel frequently to locations throughout the Midwest, about 25%
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and database programs
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Time may be spent at farms, plants or in an office environment. This will include exposure to varying temperatures in extreme heat or cold, exposed to seasonal weather conditions.
