THE ROLE: The Director of Interior Design is responsible to lead the area and plays a key role on the senior division operations team and oversee the team to support the sales process to provide a virtual reality experience that differentiates the process and allows the ability to see the final product and options that are available. Stays ahead of market trends and looks to find options that need to be included or updated in the library portfolio. Is a key partner to the operations to participate throughout the building process including paper and frame walks. Brings the buyer/homeowner through the design process to agree on the final product.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Manages the full design experience ensure quality, accuracy, design studio organization and cleanliness, samples, and schedule.
  • Observes team members interactions with a buyer or homeowner to evaluate, provide feedback, and coach and develop each individual.
  • Manages the library design packages to include reviewing on a scheduled cadence, determining any changes, implementing the updates, working with purchasing on any cost changes, and reviewing all updates with the division teams.
  • Oversees all or part of the design team members responsible to hire, evaluate, and performance manage as necessary.
  • Is the key point of contact and partner to the sales team when working with prospective buyers and /or homeowners to represent or assign all meetings to support in finalizing a contract.
  • Partners with all members of the operations teams to ensure team is aligned on the design packages and individual plans providing the output required and the adjustments as needed.
  • Functions as the design leader in prospective buyers or homeowners to review TJH design principles, how space is utilized, answering questions, and supporting the sales team in overcoming obstacles to a contract
  • Work closely with the designer and prospective buyer or homeowner to review the personalization options and upgrades proving guidance and insights to support decision making and to explain the areas that are not personalize and the reasons TJH designs in this fashion.
  • Assist the buyer or homeowner in the final selection process and create the final design using the virtual reality design app.
  • Participates in frame walks soliciting and providing feedback to identify opportunities to enhance the current project or those in the future.
  • Participates in site visits to include frame walks, vendor installations, post installations, and as needed to find opportunities to increase quality, reduce cost and cycle time. While also working with vendors/contractors to assess installations and work in partnership to enhance quality, ensure consistency, and improve work product.
  • Works closely with the team to ensure vendors provide a seamless process and to learn product knowledge and quality standards.
  • Support the Area Managers and Construction Superintendents to respond to requests for information (RFI) both in real time or to research answers and respond in a reasonable and agreed upon timeframe.
  • Manage the oversight of the color board (exterior) materials to ensure a visually appealing curb value and adjust to provide the right first impression and stays focused on continuing to show at best throughout the process. Provides input and training to the design team to continue to improve standards.
  • Conducts competitive visits and research to keep current with trends in the industry and develops recaps and ideas to the design team to review and determine if needs to be addressed. Works with the operations team and corporate design to make recommendations to add to meet market differentiation.
  • Supervise and support buyer or homeowner communications and expectations during the Interior Design process.
  • Leads the design review and participates as a member of the value add / value engineering process to identify opportunities in quality, cost, and cycle time.
  • Leads and participates in completed spec home evaluation on design opportunities in function, trends, quality, and visual appeal

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field
  • 7-10 years’ experience in Interior Design or related field
  • Previous experience acting as a front-line people leader in Interior Design or related area.
  • Has demonstrated effectiveness coaching team members on performance, capability, and career development.

WHAT WILL SET YOU A PART:

  • Ability to evaluate individual design skills of each team member and help to coach and develop or performance manage.
  • Understands and can read architectural plans and interpret to address design needs to meet the local customer needs.
  • Demonstrates an expertise in design principles and standards and use in the daily operations of the role to work with design team to deliver service excellence.
  • Has a strong understanding of the homebuilding process from start to finish and how design role fits in to ensure meets responsibilities of the role
