PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:Under general direction, maintains and administers federal, state, and institutional student Financial Aid funds as well as directing the student employment function.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Directs the overall operation of the student financial aid program which provides financial assistance to students.Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; recruits, employs, onboards, trains, supervises, and evaluates unit staff.Develops and recommends policies for Financial Aid which support goals and policies of the institution and which ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.Participates in university policy-making task forces which establish tuition policy and pricing determinations and considers other student financial matters.Provides information and reports regarding Financial Aid to management, the community, and funding agencies.Represents the university to various institutional divisions as well as externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, and/or the general public/local community.Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.Provides direction in the purchase and development of the department's hardware and software.Monitors all athletics aid, institutional aid and outside aid awarded.Inputs all financial data into Compliance Assistant Internet and assists and monitors NCAA Bylaws 15.5.1.2.3 and 15.5.1.3.2 regarding certification of non-counters.Interprets and applies federal laws and regulations; university policies and regulations; and state regulations relating to the delivery of student financial assistance.Ensures that the university has exception-free Financial Aid audits and program reviews by keeping abreast of and implementing all federal and state laws and regulations that pertain to the programs administered by the Financial Aid Office.Maintains the university’s Financial Aid data to assure timely and accurate submission of required federal, state and local reports.Develops and directs Financial Aid strategies within the framework of federal and state regulations that are consistent with the enrollment management objectives of the university and by administering Financial Aid, scholarships and student employment programs that support student recruitment and retention.Contributes to student satisfaction through delivery of quality customer service in all aspects of the administration of Financial Aid and student employment services.Communicates and collaborates with academic units to ensure that all of the above responsibilities are integrated into their strategic planning and operational protocols.Develops, implements, assesses, and documents clear and specific professional development initiatives that ensure the efficacy of unit personnel.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and direct student financial assistance programs and initiatives.Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.Knowledge of principles, practices, methodology, and procedures for the provision of student Financial Aid.Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.Ability to identify and secure alternative funding/revenue sources.Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment.Employee development and performance management skills.Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the provision of student Financial Aid.Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.Ability to analyze and interpret financial information and to develop and prepare financial statements and ad hoc reports and analyses.Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.Knowledge of current and developing information services capacity requirements to support operational needs and directions.
