Director of Finance

We are searching for a Director of Finance who can provide strategic leadership for our nonprofit news organization, ensuring alignment with our goals and adherence to financial best practices.
In this role, you will collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to develop and manage annual budgets for our organization. You will monitor financial performance against budgeted goals and provide recommendations for optimization, including P&L statements on specific verticals and products.
More specifically, you will generate and distribute accurate financial reports to executive leadership, board, and other key stakeholders. We will look to you to provide insightful analysis of financial data to support decision making.
You will work closely with our organization's board, which has fiduciary responsibility for the organization, providing quarterly reporting during board meetings and other materials as requested, and ensuring we continue to meet our nonprofit obligations.
You will oversee one employee who is responsible for accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation, ensuring accurate and timely financial record-keeping and reporting.
The Director of Finance will partner with human resources to manage and support payroll processes and benefits administration, both of which are administered by HR, and to do payroll analyses. You will help ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for our staff.
You will lead efforts to ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations, including preparation and submission of required tax filings and documents, as well as participate actively in the financial auditing process. 990s, audit and other related documents are prepared by an independent accounting firm. You will also be responsible for developing internal controls to safeguard financial assets and prevent fraud.
