Responsibilities
- Documentation: Provides department leadership for the implementation and documentation of all ESS programming across the corporation, to include Child Find and 504 Accommodation Plans, ensuring compliance aligned to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Student Services: Ensures the learning and development goals identified in IEP’s and 504’s for students are met to include Transition Plans and Graduation Rate for the identified subgroup.
- Collaboration: Works in conjunction with the State Department of Education and various other agencies and stakeholders to meet the needs of students; prepares and monitors contracts with individuals and agencies for special services not available through the school system.
- Legal Knowledge: Maintain considerable knowledge of local, state and federal policies, procedures, and legal requirements regarding Exceptional Students to ensure the department is compliant in accordance with all state and federal laws.

The Director of Exceptional Student Services (ESS) is a dynamic leader performing a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks for the implementation of an effective ESS program within Graduation Solutions. The Director is responsible for leading programs to identify students needing services or who are eligible for services through IDEA and Section 504. The Director will coordinate the efforts of federal, state and local agencies, private specialists, parents and program employees to provide the services needed by students as determined by department staff. Additionally, the Director will monitor and ensure the overall efficacy of programs with compliance for federal, state and local regulations pertaining to ESS. This is a hybrid position allowing for flexing of on-site and remote work opportunities related to corporate and departmental needs and goals.
The Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that measures the Director’s effectiveness is maintaining special education documentation with compliance and timeliness. Success in this position will be determined by an accuracy rate of 90% compliance as measured on the ESS monthly roster, 50% of ESS students who have been enrolled at least 80 school days will meet the Credits Earned Rate of 4.5 credits a year, and Grad Rate of 50% for students who meet the On Track to Graduate eligibility.
