We are looking for a Director of Engineering to drive the secure development and delivery of the 1upHealth data delivery platform and to ensure our customers get the maximum value from the data stored in our systems. You will lead 1upHealth development teams, applying cutting edge technologies to innovate on the ability to securely connect, manage, mesh, and share petabyte-scale healthcare data from millions of people. As Director of Engineering you will report to the VP of Software Engineering and work closely with the CTO and your peers to support and grow our world-class software engineering organization.
In this role, you’ll get to:
- Attract, inspire, and retain exceptional engineers and engineering leaders.
- Partner with the Product team to define a vision and roadmap for the 1upHealth platform.
- Lead the Engineering teams that build services and tools to manage and serve our customers’ data.
- Partner with teams across the organization to execute on the roadmap and vision with velocity and predictability.
- Partner with the Product and Implementations teams to ensure that our customers’ data is of high quality and provides the maximum value to our customers.
- Ensure the security of our customers’ data using secure development practices that align with industry best practices.
- Work across the organization to optimize the 1upHealth platform for scalability while reducing its overall cost of operation.
- Deliver software products using Agile scrum methods and foster a metrics-based DevSecOps software development culture.
We are looking for people who have:

- Demonstrable success leading the development of high-scale enterprise API-first SaaS products and services in a public cloud provider; AWS experience preferred.
- Experience with modern data technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka, Apache Iceberg, etc), microservice architectures, and serverless and/or container-based architectures.
- One or more of:
- Experience managing high volume/velocity data stored in a modern data architecture (e.g. data clouds, data lakes, data lake houses, etc).
- Experience building products and services for healthcare, preferably based on current HL7v2 and FHIR standards.
- Experience applying machine learning tools and techniques to improve and enrich datasets and extract business value.
- Technical ability to problem solve with senior engineers for architectural trade-offs and technology choices.
- Directed and mentored a high performance organization of 20+ engineers in a growth environment. Must have experience managing and successfully growing the careers of Engineering managers.
- Previous hands-on experience as a software developer and technical leader.
- A high degree of comfort directing metrics-based secure software development. Must have working knowledge of industry standard data security best practices.
- The ability to communicate effectively with both engineers and executive leadership.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Management or a related field or equivalent experience.
