As Director of Engineering, you will lead software development for our production Linux kernel. Google’s production kernel is an advanced Linux-based kernel that is a platform for innovation in kernel technologies as they apply to Google’s fleet of machines. ProdKernel enables our application developers to write code that answers user queries and also helps to manage the exabytes of data in the fleet. You will be responsible for providing technical outlook, driving strategy, and successfully executing across numerous proprietary and open source technologies to solve difficult problems for our customers.
You will have deep experience building software platforms and compute infrastructure at scale. You will have deep expertise with the Linux kernel or related operating systems, and will understand how to address the myriad needs of the most demanding internal and external customers. You will be creative and analytical and effectively bring innovative software solutions to market.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $271,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
