Director of Engineering – Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls


Position Type: Full-time, Exempt, Salary

Reports to: VP Plant Engineering

Supervisory Responsibility: Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineers

Location: Jacksonville, FL (Corporate Headquarters)

Job Summary

The Director of Engineering – Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls is responsible to plan, organize and direct the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls engineering department to meet company objectives for the design and construction for Combined Cycle power plants. Major responsibilities include directing Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls engineering activities associated with project execution, contract review, proposal generation and design management.

Essential Functions:

· Direct Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls engineering activities associated with project execution, contract review, product development, proposal generation and design management.

· Responsible for teamwork assignments, career planning, and performance evaluation.

· Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including engineers and project managers to define project goals, scope, deliverables and to ensure the project is delivered on time, and to the desired quality.

· Support Project Engineering team to meet Customer requirements and timely resolutions of Engineering issues.

· Direct external engineering companies and suppliers towards on-time generation of project related deliverables for the assigned area of responsibility.

· Guide team members in drawing / document review (both to and from Customer and Suppliers)

· Ensure compliance with customer, authority, and industry codes and specifications.

· Responsible for assigned engineering team’s cost planning and control to meet goals.

· Manage technical specifications, procedures, and design data for the assigned area of responsibility.

· Support conceptual design and technical solutions for the Business Development team.

· Work with regional engineering and site teams for design requirements and follow up.

· Monitors the daily workflow of the department.

· Manage the assigned engineering teams’ budget for the project(s) being implemented.

· Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.

· Assists with warranty requests by assessing and executing a corrective action plan.

· Participates in ISO 9001 and other audits.

· Develops new procedures and work instructions, as required, for the team to ensure accurate work products and improve productivity.

· Any other engineering tasks associated with the project.

· Anticipate and troubleshoot any potential issues in assigned area.

· Submit periodic internal reports to Management regarding the status of Engineering issues and look ahead for upcoming period.

Work Environment

Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to project sites for observation and support may be necessary which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and head protection.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to twenty-five pounds.

The employee must be able to bend, climb, stoop, or stretch as required to examine fabricated components at the site.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Overtime and weekend work are required as necessary.

Travel

Anticipated 20% travel for this position. Some occasional local day travel may also be necessary.

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited University.

· Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation or cooling system design or similar projects working experience.

· Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering Management and Leadership

· Familiar with ASME B31, NEC, ASHRAE, AHRI, CTI, HI and various building codes.

· Familiar with selection and technical requirement of general mechanical equipment including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Ten plus years of experience in heavy duty industrial frame GT CC field.

Preferred Education and Experience

· Master’s degree in engineering or business from an accredited University

· Knowledge of 3D CAD software and AutoCAD preferred.

· Electric Power Systems, DCS, Controls
