Director of Development for Affinity Giving
Job Description
The Director of Development for Affinity Giving plays a crucial role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects, focusing on non-athletic Affinity Giving, with a primary emphasis on supporting and enhancing Greek life and non-athletic student initiatives at The University of Tulsa. This position involves strategic development, donor cultivation, fundraising execution, planning, and analysis to foster a culture of giving among alumni, parents, and friends committed to Greek life at The University of Tulsa.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Strategic Development
  • Collaborates with the Associate Vice President to implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for non-athletic Affinity Giving, with a specific focus on supporting Greek Life programs and initiatives.
  • Aligns development goals with broader institutional objectives in coordination with university leadership.
  • Attends regular meetings of the major gifts team in the Advancement Office to collaborate on strategies.
  • Coordinates with the Annual and Affinity Giving office to develop coordinated contact strategies for major gifts prospects.
  • Works with designated professionals in the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications for cultivation and stewardship campaigns.
  • Monitors and reports on progress toward fundraising goals, donor retention, and acquisition.

Donor Cultivation and Fundraising Execution
  • Identifies, cultivates, and stewards relationships with potential major donors who have a vested interest in supporting fraternity and sorority life at TU.
  • Develops and maintains a portfolio of key donors, ensuring regular communication and personalized engagement strategies.
  • Maintains an active schedule of identification, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship calls and visits to donors and new prospects with philanthropic capacity.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of prospects and donors with specific goals and benchmarks intended to secure annual, major and planned gifts in the $25,000 and up range.
  • Staffs key university leaders on individual, corporate and foundation donor calls.
  • Coordinates and travels to key markets to visit alumni and donors identified who may support the Greek Life and non-athletics affinity initiatives as major prospects, including setting and attending appointments, events, and follow-up.
  • When appropriate, develops formal proposals to donor prospects for support and works with Advancement Communications on proposals.

Planning and Analysis
  • With senior University Advancement and Alumni Engagement staff, analyzes and evaluates current and past donor trends for constituencies, and targets segments of donors and prospects for personalized attention.
  • Helps design a fundraising agenda that will support and advance key university initiatives.
  • Collaborates with key leaders in setting specific dollar and donor goals.
  • Coordinates the development activities of any volunteer advisory boards.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions, gifts, and pledges in the university's CRM system.
  • Assists the Annual and Affinity Giving office in identifying major annual fund prospects for Greek and affinity initiatives, increasing the number of new annual donors, reinstating lapsed annual donors, and upgrading current contributors to the college's annual funds.
  • Works with the Advancement staff on special funding, including special projects. Responsibilities include conferring with program heads or department chairs on project descriptions and needs, identifying potential corporate and individual prospects, and coordinating the cultivation/solicitation of donors for these initiatives.
  • Handles other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 or more years of experience in higher education development, fundraising
  • Willingness to seek and forge new donor relationships.
  • Experience in campaign fundraising.
  • Established track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant philanthropic gifts for higher education institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors nationally, and to develop plans of action and follow through.
  • Ability to create a climate of confidence and trust on the part of donors, development colleagues and faculty.
  • Superior problem-solving ability demonstrating maturity and sound judgment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to work with little supervision but collaboratively in a complex and energetic environment.
  • High energy, independent, self-starter.
  • Extremely proficient with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge.
