JOB SUMMARY

New England Conservatory (NEC) is seeking a Director of Content Strategy and Data Analytics to join the office of Marketing, Communications, and External Relations. As an integral role, the Director will report to the Vice President for Marketing, Communications, and External Relations and will collaborate closely with stakeholders across campus. This new position will:

Content Strategy and Development

  • Develop and implement comprehensive content strategies to engage target audiences and enhance brand awareness, ensuring alignment with enrollment goals.
  • Maintain a content calendar encompassing NEC's communication channels, institutional goals, and strategic priorities.
  • Create data and analytics reports to inform Content Strategy, utilizing data insights to understand audiences, behavior, content performance, and engagement metrics.
  • Oversee the creation of compelling and relevant content across various platforms, including web, social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • Monitor and analyze content performance metrics and user feedback to identify improvement opportunities and guide content strategies.


Digital Content and Web Management

  • Direct all scheduling and logistics related to digital Content Strategy, including supporting sourcing ideas, leading Content Strategy meetings, and developing editorial content calendars for digital and social media.
  • Develop and guide the strategy for NEC's flagship social media channels, offer expertise and best practices to social media managers across campus, and collaborate with departments on campus that request social media channels to ensure alignment with NEC's overall social media strategy.
  • Serve as the lead content editor for the NEC website, ensuring editorial consistency and quality for materials contributed by colleagues across campus. Support the migration of Content from the existing NEC website in Drupal to a to-be-launched site in WordPress, while ensuring key deadlines and deliverables are met by stakeholders across campus.
  • Oversee various content types, including short and long-form videos, podcasts, photography, and web copy, for distribution across social media and paid advertising channels.


Data Analytics and SEO

  • Set goals, objectives, and key performance metrics for NEC’s digital assets (website, flagship social media channels, Slate CRM, newsletters, etc.); analyze web traffic and user behavior using tools like GA4 and others as needed; analyze data across social media platforms to understand audiences; develop data reporting for Slate CRM to inform marketing admissions and enrollment strategies
  • Collaborate with NEC's leadership, including the President's Office, Provost's Office, Strategy Office, Alumni Affairs, Development, and IT, to advance strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the SEO Content Strategy, continually improving the performance of digital assets with a focus on taxonomies, metadata frameworks, and advanced SEO techniques.
  • Manage NEC's website analytics (GA4) and develop dashboards to inform and adjust strategies.


Other Responsibilities

  • Sit on NEC's Emergency Management Team, ensuring effective and responsive communication during critical situations.
  • Manage and mentor the Digital Content Coordinator and offer guidance and mentorship to colleagues within the department.
  • Provide strategic guidance and thought leadership to colleagues across campus.
  • Manage relevant relationships with contractors and consultants.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience required, including leadership, management, and mentoring of communications, editorial, or content marketing teams.
  • Proven experience developing and executing successful content strategies that drive engagement.
  • Extensive experience leading Content Strategy and executing holistic, integrated campaigns across various media.
  • Proven experience in creating Data Analytics reports for stakeholders with varying expertise.
  • Expertise in utilizing Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for data analysis and the ability to create and share data-driven dashboards to monitor content performance and audience engagement.
  • Expertise with SEO and optimizing web content to enhance search performance, boost engagement, conversions, and lead generation.
  • A track record of effectively managing, mentoring, and leading data-driven teams.
  • A passion for fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Strong writing skills across multiple platforms, including social media channels, websites, and video storyboards.
  • Experience in managing and/or launching complex websites focusing on user experience, Content Strategy, and information architecture.
  • Experience with WordPress or another web content management system is required.
  • Strong project management skills and experience working with internal stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Familiarity with media editing programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and others.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging social media channels.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of professionalism and discretion.
  • A hands-on approach and eagerness to develop strategies from the ground up.
  • Enthusiasm for the arts and arts education.
