MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Director of Compliance and Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, governance and innovation of Compliance and Risk Management initiatives across the organization.
This person will plan, develop, and implement actions that identify, evaluate, mitigate, and control the company's operational risks. She/he will partner with cross-functional leaders in areas such as IT, IT Security, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Medical, Clinical, etc. to assess organizational activities that threaten the safety, security, assets, reputation, and success of the Odyssey House, Inc
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify state, city and federal regulatory, legislative, and industry specific requirements and define controls that can be used to monitor compliance to meet those requirements.
- Plan, develop, direct and oversee Odyssey House’s compliance strategy.
- Act as an independent reviewer/evaluator to ensure that risk and compliance issues are appropriately evaluated and resolved and prevented from occurring again.
- Create new systems, processes, and procedures to ensure that compliance is a standard part of Odyssey House functions.
- Ensure compliance between city, state and federal contracts as well as any other grants or regulatory requirements.
- Define key elements of effective Risk Management and governance programs and provide recommendations to implement realistic modifications that reduce or eliminate compliance risks.
- Conduct frequent risk assessments in operational areas including, but not limited to, IT, IT Security, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Medical, Clinical, Environmental, Facility Maintenance and Food Services at all Odyssey House departments and facilities.
- Lead, review, and discuss audit findings with program level and senior managers, and executive staff throughout the agency and develop corrective action plans when necessary.
- Collect and analyze Odyssey House risk exposures, and compare to industry standards and market trends.
- Develop and maintain fire safety and disaster plans for each facility.
- Define expectations with audit support employees and oversee execution of all audits conducted.
- Promote organizational awareness of Compliance and communicate compliance Risk Management strategies, ensuring understanding of the importance of risk mitigation.
- Prepare reports and proposals to executive leadership and senior management.
- Be first responder & support for local managers in case of incidents (accidents, fire damage, etc.)
- Be an internal collaborator with facility managers and directors to review any compliance questions or risk assessments.
- Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Institutional Risk or Operational Risk and Project Management or Consulting (internal or external) OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk and Project Management or Consulting (internal or external).
- Knowledge of regulatory guidance pertaining to behavioral health and supportive housing services area (OASAS, OMH, SAMSHA, Justice Center, DEA, OMIG preferred).
- PC Skills including Microsoft Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint and other MS Office applications.
- Contract management experience / education.
- Exceptional organization, analysis, decision making and problem resolution skills.
- Strong leadership with capacity to positively influence others. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to Commute to all Odyssey House locations in New York City.
