About the Practice

Northwest ADHD Treatment Center is seeking a Director of Behavioral Health to help guide and grow our practice. Northwest ADHD Treatment Center was founded with two primary goals: to be a center of excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of attention related concerns, and to be an organization where providers and staff enjoy coming to work. Northwest ADHD Treatment Center fosters a highly collaborative, team oriented environment, with an aim to maximize trust and psychological safety among patients, staff, and providers.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates have a passion for helping those with neurodivergency or attention concerns. Top candidates have a doctoral license to practice psychology, and have at least 3 years of Behavioral Health department management experience or a master's level degree in business management and at least 1 year of direct Behavioral Health management experience. Best candidates are comfortable trusting and delegating to their employees, are effective leaders, and have been collaborative members of management teams.

Position Summary

The Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day clinical operations of the licensed Behavioral Health providers and reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer.

The Director of Behavioral Health manages the Behavioral Health staff at each location to include clinical supervision, consultation groups, chart review, program development, continuing education, facilitating administrative meetings, overseeing appropriate coding and billing for services, and coordinating data collection for outcome research. The position has approximately 20 direct reports. The Director of Behavioral Health works closely with the Chief Operations Officer in the development of policy and procedures that impact behavioral staff.

The Director of Behavioral Health is chiefly responsible for knowledge of EHR functions, procedures, and customizations, and evaluates requests for EHR system changes in conjunction with the Director of Psychiatric Services and the Chief Operations Officer.

The Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for ensuring all providers adhere to professional and ethical standards, and conducts routine audits for note completion and quality, among other duties to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse. The Director of Behavioral Health also works with both the administrative and clinical staff to resolve disputes between employees or employees and patients. The Director of Behavioral Health further assists the Chief Operations Officer and the owners with other tasks to ensure effective coordination and execution of all clinical operations. The Director of Behavioral Health supports the strategic mission and vision of Northwest ADHD Treatment Center, and fosters a warm, collaborative culture of trust and psychological safety in the organization.

The position requires strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for clinical interventions and company-wide initiatives, and is responsible for ensuring the clinical success and sustainability of Northwest ADHD Treatment Center programs.

The position requires an extended training period (estimated to be 6 months) with the Chief Operations Officer, Training Director, and Director of Psychiatric Services.

Job Functions

Agency Leadership:

  • Contribute to the overall success of the company through participation in and support of cross-functional activities, communications, processes, policies, protocols, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a company culture that supports best clinical practice within a fiscally responsible framework.
  • Unify and advocate for the needs of providers.
  • Facilitate focused consultation groups and relay procedural changes at treatment teams every week
  • Assist the training director in didactic training.
  • Be a champion and positive change agent for agency initiatives.
  • Advocate for the needs of Behavioral Health staff.
  • Assist and support the Training Director in the onboarding of new providers, particularly processes related to providers to include recruiting for/posting clinical positions, screening applicants, initial contacts, interviewing potential candidates, and making hiring decisions

Program Management:

  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate clinical program services, ensuring program outcomes are achieved, regulatory and agency standards are met
  • Provide assertive clinical and/or administrative supervision for clinical staff and programs, ensuring quality of services, championing and monitoring Northwest ADHD Treatment Center adopted evidence based practices.
  • Work with clinical staff (both mental health and psychiatric) to ensure adherence to contract expectations
  • Work with owners and managers in the streamlining of internal clinical processes to maximize efficiency, improve consistency in implementation of clinical protocols, and ensure staff are operating at the top of their scope of practice.
  • Lead the program(s) through the development and implementation of targeted treatment interventions that minimize risk, maximize treatment benefit and incorporate community partners (ABA therapy, direct referrals to PT/OT/Speech therapy, etc.).
  • Ensure that staff-developed interventions conform to overall company needs as well as align with best practices, mission and vision of Northwest ADHD Treatment Center.
  • Respond directly to patients who file complaints/ grievances related to care provided by NW ADHD Treatment Center
  • Be familiar with EHR capabilities, be able to make EHR customizations and modifications, stay current with EHR release notes and consider feasibility and utility of new functionalities as they become available
  • Work with Clinical Director and Owners on trainings, program development, and special projects as needed
  • Supervise the Client Services Coordinator
  • Function as an auxiliary point of contact for the after hours crisis line, after the operator attempts to contact the primary provider, in conjunction with the Training Director.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and supervise clinical program staff by utilizing effective leadership that motivates, inspires, and supports staff to quality outcomes.
  • Monitor employee professional development, mentoring, and advancement.
  • Evaluate, recruit, hire, monitor, develop performance improvement plans, and if necessary terminate Behavioral Health staff.
  • Respond to performance issues in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct Annual Performance Reviews
  • Maintain a cohesive, mission-driven team and continually develop the team to achieve their professional development goals and the needs of the organization. Help the team realize connectivity to the agency and its mission.

Week to Week Expectations:

  • Maintain a minimal caseload (initial expectation: 7 scheduled appointments/ week)
  • Provide as needed consultation to providers
  • Follow up with providers when concerns are raised, validate concerns, and overall foster a culture of trust and psychological safety.
  • Point person for all procedural questions regarding behavioral care

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees in the Behavioral Health and Training department(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience

Education: Doctorate in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) or related field

Experience: Minimum three years of related clinical management experience and/or MBA or other Master’s degree in business management plus 1 year related clinical management experience.

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations

Licenses: Valid License to Practice Psychology in Oregon. If out of state, valid license to practice psychology in a U.S.A. jurisdiction, and willingness to obtain licensure in Oregon.
