JOB TITLE: Director of Advancement and Grants

Reports To: CFM Executive Director FLSA: Exempt

OVERVIEW:

The mission of Cornerstone Family Ministries is to make a lasting and positive impact in the lives of economically disadvantaged children and their families in our community by nourishing young bodies, developing young minds, and fostering hope through Christ…One Child at a time. At Cornerstone Family Ministries we positively impact the students and families we serve through:

  • Nourishing Young Bodies - Sponsoring nearly 150 Child Care centers through the Child Care Food Program and providing access to nutritious food to nearly 17,000 children in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco and Manatee Counties.
  • Developing Minds - Providing Quality Early Childhood Education in Lab School setting where everyone is learning & growing and parents feel safe and secure as they earn and learn their way out of poverty – Breaking the Cycle of Generational Poverty One Child, One Family, and One Future Early Childhood Professional at a Time!
  • Fostering Hope Through Christ - Engaging the community and local churches who generously donate and serve our ministry thus impacting the lives of the families we serve.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Advancement and Grants (DAG) is responsible for overseeing fundraising efforts that deepen and build relationships with donors and create new connections with major donors to support special projects, sponsorships and major gifts to Cornerstone (CFM). The DAG develops and executes strategies to raise funds, increase donor engagement, and promote the organization's mission to donors with capacity to give gifts of $1,000 or more, including government and private grants opportunities that fit the program and organizational needs of CFM. The DAG works with the Community Engagement and Events Manager (CEEM) to coordinate successful fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives by leveraging these opportunities to recruit sponsorships and engage donors with the capacity to give annual, special and legacy gifts in meaningful mission activities. The DAG maintains accurate donor records, monitors progress and trends in giving, and develops reports and a moves management system based on the information collected. Additionally, the DAG oversees communication to donors to thank and promote the organization needs as well as to communicate stewardship of their gifts. The DAG is the steward of all donor records and correspondence to donors and is a key contributor to the annual fundraising and donor development plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Is a key member of the leadership team reporting directly to the Executive Director.
  • Is a key contributor to the annual and strategic resourcing plan for the organization and is the key staff support for the Board of Directors Development Committee with regard to donor Advancement and major donor recruitment.
  • Leads in the advancement of donors through the planning and implementation of a moves management system that develops relationships with donors for sustainable funding of the organization over time to include sponsorships of events and special projects, annual giving, foundation grants, and planned gifts.
  • Works with the Community Engagement and Events Manager to insure successful fundraising events by coordinating the recruitment of sponsors. Specifically supports sponsor engagement for Wonder Walk Events (March-April) and Child’s Chance for Change Top Golf Challenge (November).
  • Leverages community wide fundraising initiatives led by the Community Engagement and Events Manager by using them to provide advanced gift opportunities for current and potential major donors.
  • Develops and manages effective donor engagement and Move’s Management strategies including but not limited to Mission Connection Tours, Holiday and Year End Direct Mail Card/Appeal, grant, foundation, major donor requests and the guiding of the Board, staff, volunteers and committed donors in engaging potential major donors that are in their circle of influence.
  • Works with the Leadership team to identify facilities and program major gift opportunities and matches those with potential major individual, corporate and/or foundation donors as well as government grant opportunities.
  • Proactively researches, identifies, and recruits funding partners to resource the organization’s needs.
  • Researches and identifies resources to fund major donor support for initiatives reflected in Cornerstone’s annual budget as a priority and, in addition, seeks support for future programs that are a part of the organization’s vision for the future.
  • Creates and maintains a calendar of foundation and grant opportunities that align with CFM budgeted and “if funded” needs and submits proposals on time for each opportunity.
  • Works with the Executive Director and Director of Finance and Administration to create budgets to support funding opportunities that align with the CFM budget, if funded or future needs.
  • Leads in the development of successful fund development proposals and campaigns and works with the Director of Finance and Administration ensuring actions are compliant with state solicitation rules, best practice, in support of the organization’s mission and vision, and in adherence with funder/donor intent and audit requirements.
  • Works with the Director of Finance and Administration to maintain and build a donor database ensuring that donors are thanked promptly and that opportunities to expand relationships are followed up and communicated to the Executive Director and Board Development Committee as needed to cultivate a deeper relationship.
  • Works with the Executive Director to coordinate marketing materials/vehicles for events and fundraising efforts, and coordinates the implementation and distribution of those marketing materials/vehicles.
  • Creates a compelling “case for support” content and outcome information to go with budgets for each program and CFM as a whole. These cases for support include photos and stories with appropriate releases so they can be shared publicly and provided in proposals to prospective donors.
  • Creates and promotes opportunities for Advanced giving to include giving circles, sponsorship packages, legacy giving initiatives, special gift opportunities and recognitions.
  • Contributes content for social media.
  • Works with Community Engagement and Events Manager to produce and distribute a quarterly donor and volunteer newsletter.
  • Represents CFM at Chamber of Commerce meetings in the neighborhoods where we do our work.
  • Coordinates the promotion and advertising of Advancement related events and program needs to potential donors and serves as a “brand ambassador” making sure that all materials and content reflect the brand of Cornerstone to include proper use of logos, images, content and stories reflecting its mission, vision and guiding values.
  • Promotes planned giving opportunities to CFM and works with wealth and planned giving advisors to share the work of CFM with their clients.
  • Serves as the historian for the organization; proactively ensuring that photos, video libraries and news archives are coordinated, collected, organized, kept and shared to promote the good work of the organization as well as document its programs.
  • Is a key ambassador to the community on behalf of the organization and supports the mission of the organization as needed.
  • Due to the nature of this role, this role requires one to be on call and with the ability to work six days a week when we have a weekend event.[1]

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has supervisory responsibilities for direct reports. Team leadership and acting in a team lead capacity is required. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Cornerstone Family Ministries policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Development, Marketing, Public Relations; 3 plus years’ experience at a leadership level; or combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of CRM databases that track customer/donor information and follow-up needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Web-site content management.
  • Proficient in all Social Media tools, such as Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • Formal fundraising, grant writing, moves management and non-profit training and experience is [2] highly desired .
  • Experience in a ministry setting as a volunteer or staff member.
  • An organized implementer.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, delegation and interpersonal skills.
