DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Accreditation/Provider-Approver Unit/Continuing Nursing Education

  • Serves as the main resource for all CNE activities for the organization.
  • Serves as the Accredited Provider Program Director for the AWHONN Provider Unit.
  • Leads all aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation, and record keeping of specific provider directed, provider-paced live women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal CNE activities/products; provider-directed, learner-paced enduring women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal CNE activities/products; or blended women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal CNE activity/products.
  • Ensures integration of all appropriate educational design principles and processes that are consistent with requirements of the ANCC primary accreditation program.
  • Upholds that women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal CNE activities/products build upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of practice, education, leadership, research, or theory development, to the end of improving the health of the public and RN’s pursuit of their professional career goals.
  • Facilitates orientation and mentoring of new Nurse Planners to the AWHONN Provider Unit.
  • Oversees and manages the Provider Unit relationship with licensing/certification bodies: (Examples: ANCC, IBCLC, ACNM, ACCME, NCC, etc.).
  • Periodically collaborates with the AWHONN Education Advisory Committee to develop and conduct a comprehensive educational needs assessment of members.
  • Provides continuing education consulting as needed.
  • Promotes continuing education offerings through needs assessment surveys.
  • Conducts environmental scans of programming content of women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal specialties, as well as other healthcare associations and collaborates with internal stakeholders for member value proposition planning.
  • Implements quality improvement measures as necessary to enhance educational program processes and member satisfaction.
  • Consults on the maintenance of Continuing Nursing Education listings in online catalogs and contributes design recommendations to new learning and event management tools.
  • Evaluates AWHONN CNE activities to ensure compliance with ANCC standards of integrity.
  • content libraries on an annual basis with the AWHONN Provider Unit.
  • Prepares and submits the annual ANCC report for the Provider-Approver Unit to achieve and maintain accreditation with distinction status.
  • Prepares and submits the ANCC application and self-study for the Provider-Approver Unit to achieve and maintain reaccreditation with distinction status.
  • Develops an Approver Unit business plan; implements and directly oversees the Approver Unit, if approved.
  • Responsible for department budget(s) as assigned.

AWHONN Annual Convention Educational Program
  • In collaboration with the entire convention team, develops the strategy and planning of the AWHONN annual convention.
  • Evaluates and enhances the online AWHONN convention abstract submission, selection, and presentation processes in collaboration with the Sr. Manager, Education Operations.
  • Evaluates participant feedback from the previous AWHONN convention for consideration in future conventions.
  • Develops the AWHONN Convention Program Committee chair and member roles as empowered to plan the convention educational program.
  • Facilitates the AWHONN Convention Program Committee through all educational programming processes.
  • Reviews all AWHONN convention podium and poster presentations and recommends improvements from the advanced continuing education and accreditation perspectives.
  • Serves as Accredited Provider Program Director to plan, implement, and evaluate the annual AWHONN convention educational program.
  • Works onsite in any capacity needed to implement a successful AWHONN convention experience for all participants.

Section/Chapter Educational Development
  • Assesses AWHONN Section/Chapter educational needs on a regular basis.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates AWHONN-created/provided educational programs for use by Sections/Chapters.
  • Provides ongoing development of Sections/Chapters related to Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programming.

Product Development
  • Participates in assessing educational needs of AWHONN members and groups to improve the care of childbearing people, women, and newborns.
  • Recommends product development priorities based on comprehensive educational needs assessment results.
  • Participates in educational content development based upon strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of the Library and Archives to ensure cataloging of all existing and future resources.
  • Maintains expertise in educational design and adult learning theories, assumes responsibility for implementing accreditation program criteria for selected educational activities.
  • Participates in evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of AWHONN programs, products, and services.

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

Provides ongoing professional mentoring, assists in expansion of learning, provides tools to help build knowledge, skills, and growth capacity. Serves as an educational resource for new and current staff. Promotes a positive work environment for all staff and effectively collaborates with leadership team.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree: either bachelor or graduate degree must be in nursing. Graduate Degree in Education is a plus.
  • Current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse
  • Nursing experience in women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing, required
  • Accredited Provider Program Director and Nurse Planner experience required, including clinical and/or adult education experience.
  • Accredited Approver Unit experience highly recommended
  • Specialty certification in Nursing Professional Development strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of working independently and creatively.
  • Highly effective verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed coordination and management skills with multiple projects and timelines. Project management skills a plus.
  • Strong experience working as part of collaborative teams as a member and/or leader.
  • Experience in innovative education program design, implementation, and evaluation in an association setting highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated computer skills required, preferable using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated skill in video conferencing.

This position is eligible for telecommuting and will be required to adhere to AWHONN’s Telecommuter Policy. This individual may be requested to travel to AWHONN headquarters in Washington, DC annually and more frequently as necessary for business purposes.

Salary Range $97,600-$130,000
