Organization Introduction
Liberty Hill's work is focused on Los Angeles County; however, we understand that what happens in L.A. influences the nation. In this historical moment, we believe it is especially important for Los Angeles to be a beacon of social justice nationwide.
OUR APPROACH: Liberty Hill is a public foundation founded in 1976 to power social change from the ground up by fueling grassroots community organizing. Every dollar invested in community organizing yields a $90 return in community benefits through progressive policy change. We support organizers who are tackling injustice with our three-pronged strategy: grantmaking, training, and alliance building.

In a city and county where most residents are tenants, a central tenet of our work is to ensure tenant protections are in place and enforced and to invest in innovative, community-based solutions to the housing crisis.
The Director of Housing Justice will join an innovative, nimble team to support community organizations working to protect and preserve affordable housing while building tenant power to win and implement crucial policy change. • Develop a plan for challenges between legal service providers and community-based organizations. Mediating disputes and managing grievances.
  • Engage with communities and organizations to learn about their priorities and needs and make recommendations for grantmaking investments with an eye towards developing and fostering relationships with organizations not currently in the liberty hill orbit, or with new organizations.
  • Collaborate in the determination of grantmaking priorities, work with grantmaking staff to manage, process, and ensure timely delivery of grants.
  • Collaborate with finance to manage budgets, sub-budgets, drafting and administration of subcontracts with partners and monitor payments.
