The Director – Global Sustainability, Food & Nutrition will lead the development and execution of a well-rounded global strategy to advance McDonald’s food impact agenda and goals across the business.

Responsibilities:

Food Impact Strategy & Business Advisory

  • Lead and develop a comprehensive McDonald’s global food impact strategy for the enterprise. Specifically, co-lead management of nutrition and choice strategy with Menu team and integrate/align with key Planet and People impact strategies (e.g. climate, public health, strategic sourcing initiatives, etc.).
  • Provide leadership, coordination and support for team's global nutrition goals, policies, progress measurement, reporting and management of external partnerships, in alignment with other relevant teams in Global Impact.
  • Collaborate across teams to advance data tracking, insights and amplification, including shared accountability for enabling commitment and important metric measurement, transparency, advocacy, public policy engagement and communications.
  • Maintain understanding of leading trends and changes in food, nutrition, climate, and other focus areas as program evolves, including regulatory issues (in partnership with Government Relations and external partner advisors.)
  • Identify potential opportunities and risks related to food impact and nutrition to fold into strategies and plans across the System.
  • Gather, analyze and convert into business-useful information the latest relevant research, trends and regulation.

Teams and System Enablement

  • Be responsible for Food Impact Team vertical within Global Sustainability & Social Impact, including one direct report, budget, work priorities and professional development opportunities.
  • Enable a global, cross-functional team to oversee, embed and evolve food impact strategy throughout the McDonald’s System, in partnership with Menu, Marketing, Supply Chain, Climate, Government Relations & Public Policy, Communications, Finance, and with Market Impact teams, and external advisors.
  • Advise as needed with Menu and Supply Chain teams, and supplier partners, to embed food impact, nutrition and choice strategies within product development, reformulation and SC practices.
  • Ensure optimized strategies, efficient engagements and aligned strategy execution accountabilities across functions. Develop and/or support partner teams in identifying, building and deploying solutions for implementation such as roadmaps, toolkits, policies, and standards sharing to implement strategy and enable progress.
  • Market enablement - advise and convene relevant market teams to share standard methodologies and support prioritization.

External Engagement

  • Be the SME on the impact of our food (i.e. related to nutrition, choice, marketing, sustainable diets and public health) with external partners/NGOs, including leading priority partnerships
  • Partner with Government Relations & Public Policy, ESG reporting, Finance, and Legal teams on customer, investor and other external engagements. Serve as lead global SME supporting nutrition-related impact/ESG reporting.
  • Partner with Global Communications and Marketing on credible narratives and messaging related to food strategy and nutrition commitments (e.g., Global Happy Meal Goals)
  • Represent McDonald’s at relevant conferences, external engagements, internal events, etc.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience in relevant field(s)
  • Deep knowledge and networks within nutrition, sustainable consumption, global food systems, environmental issues and NGO landscape.
  • Bachelors Degree or relevant practical experience in nutrition, public health, sustainability, or food-related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience managing trends in nutrition, food, and climate, and related marketing areas as well as other environmental focus areas, including regulatory issues.
  • Experience managing complex programs and engaging with multiple collaborators, including internal and external to decentralized organizational structures.
  • Ability to effectively translate latest research into business insights; experience educating and influencing internally to motivate action.
  • Ability to foster strong internal networks and relationships with external partners including NGOs, for-profit organizations, consortiums, and brands, in service of advancing and scaling our public commitments.
  • Global mentality, international experience and facility with non-English languages a plus.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills including ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence to engage across all levels of the business and influence without authority.
  • Enterprise approach with corporate or high-profile brand experience preferred. Prior experience leading a team, ideally in McDonald's System context.
