Job Summary/Basic FunctionDirector is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and managing all daily work activities at the MTSU Farm Units with complex operations involving beef and dairy cattle, swine, milk processing, field crops, and horticulture (650+ acres across 4 locations in Rutherford county). Essential tasks include: serve as liaison between farm personnel and agriculture faculty; responsible for budget oversight and purchasing of supplies and equipment involved in the support of the farm laboratories; ensure Farm Laboratory units are ready and able to support teaching mission and research projects for the School of Agriculture.. Director is responsible for management and oversight of the MTSU Creamery and Farmers Market retail outlet with weekly retail sales from May through October annually. Director directly supervises several full-time staff including farm unit managers and also multiple part-time employees, and approximately 25 student workers annually. Director provides oversight of all farm operations that serve as laboratories for courses in the School of Agriculture, and as demonstration sites , training, and public service to area producers and agricultural industries. The Director must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, visitors, and other constituent groups; possess strong verbal, written, and organizational skills and perform other special projects as assigned.
Required EducationMaster's degree in an area of agriculture or in a business-related field. At least one (1) degree must be in an agricultural discipline.
A bachelor's degree in agricultural discipline plus at least five (5) years of farm management and personnel management experience can be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.
Four (4) years progressively responsible experience managing personnel.
Desirable Related ExperienceSix (6) years progressively responsible experience managing personnel, field crops, and livestock preferred.
