We are seeking a Director, Executive Affairs. This is a new role at the food bank and a unique opportunity to support the CEO, COO, and Senior Leadership Team in making time, information, and decision processes more effective in addressing the most important issues facing the food bank.
Successful candidates will bring a proven track record of effectively managing complex projects and driving organizational growth, along with a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit or business management. This role will support the implementation of strategic initiatives, optimize workflows, and enhance the overall impact of the Senior Leadership Team.

This position requires exceptional project management and communication skills as well as a comprehensive understanding of the Maryland Food Bank’s goals and objectives. Working both internally and externally, the Director, Executive Affairs will facilitate decision-making while ensuring that the governance and decision-making processes are clear to all involved.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Executive Effectiveness:
- Organize and prioritize the CEO and COO’s time and attention
- Manage Senior Leadership Team meetings: identify topics and set agendas, provide background information, and disseminate learnings, decisions, and actions
- Ensure leadership is equipped with analysis and insights, and key projects are prioritized
- Model effective information framing, decision-making processes, and progress tracking
- Track the performance of the Senior Leadership Team, provide feedback, and implement strategies for continuous improvement and development

Project Management:
- Manage key projects for the CEO and COO, delivering results by working in partnership with all MFB staff
- Ensure that decisions made during Senior Leadership Team meetings are followed through effectively; coordinate with relevant colleagues to implement action plans
Communication:
- Support a cohesive and aligned organizational culture by ensuring that all relevant parties are informed and/or consulted about key projects, decisions, and changes
- Ensure that solid communications plan and cadence is in place for staff and the Board of Directors
- Draft written communications for internal and external communications
- Foster clear, complete, and actionable communication using various channels, such as in-person meetings, email, intranet, and more
- Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to draft CEO and COO presentations, speeches, articles, and quotes
Board of Directors:
- Serve as a liaison between the CEO and the Board of Directors, facilitate effective communication and information flow
- Assist in maintaining and updating corporate governance policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices
- Identify opportunities to educate and engage MFB’s board members, including organizing Board meetings and offsite opportunities to volunteer at program sites
The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:
- 4 to 8 years of applicable work experience and/or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience
- Experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion initiatives and ability to integrate these principles into the everyday work and advocate for them within the organization
- Extraordinary ability to organize and manage projects, prioritize information and tasks
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving/resolution skills
- Ability to work with executives to drive strategy execution in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of context-switching
- Comfort working across different issues, at strategic to tactical levels, with a variety of stakeholders
- High bar for personal accountability and holding others accountable
- Humility and a sense of humor
- Strong change management skills are beneficial
- High degree of skill with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to create effective presentations
