Job Description

Creative Operations DirectorNYC, CHI, or DC preferred - Hybrid

Bully Pulpit Interactive is an outcomes agency made up of strategists, data scientists, and artists. We come from politics, brands, and government and we communicate without barriers and measure what matters. BPI specializes in public affairs, corporate reputation, and social impact. A growing firm, we sit on both coasts and connect Silicon Valley technology, Madison Avenue creative, Washington policy and real people.

The Opportunity to Have A Huge Impact

We are an ambitious, quickly expanding team looking for a Director of Creative Operations who can help us create capital “C” creative work on time and under budget. You are an ambitious creative leader looking for the chance to help lead, build and grow a team while making an impact for both the biggest brands in the world and the most important mission-driven organizations fighting for meaningful social change in the country. This is an opportunity to push a creative team forward, create impactful and meaningful work, and to work with a talented, growing team.

On our team, you are the Chief of Staff. You are able to thoughtfully connect the dots between business and creative while calmly and steadily handling many moving pieces. You know how to get to the heart of project requirements - budgets, staffing, deadlines - and understand which employees are the right fit for the right projects. You bring an insightful approach to reporting and analytics, which helps you identify gaps in personnel and processes, resolve issues, and make strategic recommendations to ensure staffing needs are met with the right talent at the right moments.

What the Day-to-Day Looks Like

Leadership You will oversee the staffing of all creative projects running through the team. Your team will develop staffing plans, timelines and budgets and will track every creative project to ensure the Creative team is delivering on time and on budget while finding any potential sources of wasted funds. You are a leader on the team, and we will look to - and trust you - to manage competing team priorities and propose effective solutions to both internal teams and clients.

Processes & Technology You will build on our infrastructure and processes to increase timeliness and communications across the Creative team while supporting excellence in the creative development process. You will define and evaluate process and technology needs, constantly assessing whether the creative team has the processes and tools in place to collaborate efficiently and effectively- the foundation you lay is critical to ensuring the team will be able to do their best work.

Team/Client Collaboration You will be a critical liaison between the account and creative teams; you have the unique ability to see challenges from both the Creative team POV and the Client POV and you know the value of finding creative solutions that work for everyone. You’re the kind of person the wants to foster an environment where creativity can happen - and the client is thrilled with the end result.

Talent Development This is an opportunity to enhance/expand our talent base and manage our talent needs. You will develop and maintain a list of talented freelancers/contractors in a variety of creative disciplines (copy, art, design, production, UI, UX, etc). You’ll also work with creative team leadership to understand our team’s talent and to foster an environment where they can learn, grow and deliver work that makes us all proud.

What You Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in project and/or resource management at a creative, production, marketing or advertising agency
  • Experience helping to lead teams of 20-30+ people; you know what it takes to scale
  • The ability to flex up to help staff and lead big projects (integrated advertising campaigns of $2M+) down to the smallest projects (a banner ad!)
  • Mentorship skills; you will lead, manage, mentor and grow a team of traffic managers, producers and PMs
  • Extremely strong project management and organizational skills
  • A love for the creative development process and an understanding of what it takes for creatives to create great work, as well as an appreciation for the production realities it takes to execute against their vision. You know these don’t always align and bring the expertise - and creative problem solving- to help bring great ideas to life on time and on budget
  • Experience implementing processes and tools that save money and time and work for the Creative team culture
  • Deep knowledge of the creative process, specifically in areas such as advertising development, design, production and post production
  • Comfortable working in a fast environment with competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the agency as well as with clients and freelancing talent
