Director, Counseling & Student Development Center

Bucknell University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Counseling & Student Development Center (CDSC). Reporting to the Associate Dean of Health and Wellness, the Director will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the counseling center, providing strategic leadership, managing staff, developing programs and ensuring the delivery of high-quality counseling services to all students.

Established in 1846 as the University at Lewisburg, Bucknell is supported by over 1,200 full-time employees (roughly 400 faculty and nearly 900 staff) and has a dedicated network of more than 57,000 alumni. 3,846 undergraduates and 46 graduate students, representing most U.S. states and 57 countries, are enrolled across Bucknell’s three colleges: the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering and the Kenneth W. Freeman College of Management. For fiscal year 2023-24, Bucknell has an operating budget of $273 million and an endowment that surpassed $1 billion for the first time in fiscal year 2021. Most students live on campus all four years, fostering a vibrant, close-knit living and learning community. Bucknell’s campus, located in Lewisburg, PA, is among the most attractive in the country.

The Director of the CSDC is a critical member of the Health and Wellness team and plays a key leadership role in strengthening collaborations across the campus community through the coordination of services and activities that support all Bucknell students. They will provide leadership and oversight of the clinical, educational, fiscal and administrative aspects of the Center. Overseeing an Associate Director, two administrative assistants and seven other full-time professional staff, the Director will also contribute to the clinical efforts of the CSDC by providing direct clinical services, carrying a small caseload of student clients and ensuring timely documentation of services in the Titanium Scheduling software utilized on campus. In addition, the Director will be a vibrant and active University community member, collaborating with University partners and student organizations to promote awareness of mental health topics and resources; organizing and participating in outreach activities, workshops and other events to educate the University community about mental health issues and available resources; and providing consultation to faculty, staff, students and families regarding student mental health concerns and ways to best access resources. Priorities of the next Director will be supporting, developing and augmenting the CSDC staff; serving as a trustworthy voice for student health and wellness on campus; and collaboratively crafting a strategic plan and vision for the CSDC.

The ideal candidate will be licensed as a psychologist in the state of PA (or be license-eligible within three months of start date). A PhD, PsyD or EDD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology of a closely related field is required, along with five or more years of experience in the mental health field, including at least three years of progressive management experience.

Bucknell is committed to cultivating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where every member of the campus community can thrive. Bucknell leads with academic excellence and believes that diversity in the classroom and across the campus improves intellectual engagement, self-motivation, citizenship, cultural engagement and skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and writing. The Director will share the University’s mission to create and sustain a campus community that welcomes, understands, supports and celebrates diversity of all kinds.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $130,000 – 150,000 with a strong benefits package, including tuition remission and generous paid time off.
